GAME THREAD: Houston vs. SFA | FINAL 27-0

Well, their coach does have a national championship under his belt.

Tell me about the offenses that don’t suit speedy wide receivers

All offenses want speedy wide receivers, but wide receivers want to make catches and not just block on every play. To attract the talent, the offensive scheme needs to run downfield pass plays often, needs a QB who can deliver the ball to the correct address consistently, or can pay the receiver an obscene amount of money.
The Fritz offense is going to appeal more to running back and tight end talent, compared to a run and shoot offense.

So all the speedy wide receivers that went to Ohio State and blocked alot regret going there?

Equally surprised how easily SFA took our WRs out of the game.

This was supposedly the group to watch coming out of camp.

They did say the one CB at SFA is an NFL CB…

To be fair, he turned after the fake right into a guy in his face…kinda shocked him. It was either a missed assignment or an extra guy playing tight to the line.
If he gets that throw up it goes for a big gain.

His first pass was nice, just a hair off, but a lot of zip.

For whatever reason I have a higher opinion of Zeno than most on this board. Last year he was given about 2 seconds per pass play to make a decision.

There will be Wild Coog packages…

If they are upperclassman and have an intention to play in the NFL, then they will go where they can get the best opportunity to show off their skills. Believe it or not, players do transfer out of Ohio State just like other programs.
Why do you think UH was able to recruit top notch receivers? It’s not because of the BBQ.
I have never heard a receiver say he would rather block than score touchdowns.

Here’s the most impressive stat of all.

SFA’s QB had 27 TD passes against only four INTs last season.

We held him to only 52 yds passing with 0 TDs and an INT.

I realize this is an FCS team, but even so, stats like that don’t lie.

This DEFENSE is for real.

Army couldn’t stop Tarleton’s offense, by comparison.

And honestly should’ve been about 4 interceptions, we just had butter fingers

We WON! Stop picking apart a win. We will be fine. Coach can coach!

So is it the system as you first said or is it where you will get the best shot at the NFL which is what you are saying now?

UH did not get or recruit a ton of top notch - HS top rated receivers (a few yes, but by and large, no). We got kids who turned in to solid college receivers - most of whom did not go to the NFL.

That’s a good point. Probably not as much a consideration for NFL bound athletes, since the run and shoot is not a NFL offense. But a system like run and shoot does give receivers the opportunity to accumulate a high number of receptions and yards. It seems like that did attract talented QBs and receivers to UH. The media loves high flying offenses. Bit It’s no guarantee of winning 10 games if the defense and o-line are neglected, as we have seen in past seasons at UH.

We had a vanilla offense knowing we would win, no need to show B12 our capabilities.
We needed to hit other people rather than our own, we did and did it well.
We now step up a level and have a ā€œhomeā€ game against Rice to continue to jell.
Somehow, I don’t see us falling behind 28-0 as an unprepared team this time around…

That last TD pass was not average. NFL level tight window.

ā€œGrandpa Fritz recruitng linemen like he’s at Tulaneā€ā€¦ Really? That’s just stupid… Willie is recruiting like crazy. He’s been here for 1 full season. He completely replaced the inept o-line (which was Baaaad) from last year. ….and o-linemen don’t go from HS to being a starting player in 1 year in the big12. He’s done about all anyone could do. ….and we WON Thursday night, 27-0. Some people just have to try and piss on everything….

We can’t put too much stock in week 1. Too much turnover, this is a completely rebuilt roster. What I love is that our rough looking offense still scored 27 efficiently, kept getting positive yards. Maintaining good field position, they tried a lot of different combinations. Once Fritz’s gets film on guys and formulates an official 2 Deep I think this unit can be very effective. Defense is still elite and special teams is vastly improved. A lot of good things to build off of. If you expected perfection week 1, just take a look at college football around the country so far…… I wonder how UCF fans are feeling rn.
