The portal and house settlement will level things out now between the bottom tier fbs teams and fcs teams
Some FCs teams can take advantage of the roster cap and put legitimate rosters out there of former FBS recruits who didn’t pan out

Looks like UH is doing some value engineering on the souvenir cups, no tops, but at least this year they had long enough straws, or the same straws but shorter cups.
From a value-saving POV, that’s actually a sensible approach and would be a good biz decision.
But results may vary when it comes to fan experience.
Offense was mediocre bcoz OL was mediocre. OL has talent so, it is disappointing that Eman has not been able to coach them up. He is in his third season and at no point he has been good. He should be in notice.
93Coog00 we actually will never know how high the Run N Shoot could have gone. Even with the probations and a reduced roster we finished 10-1. I have no doubts that if we had not been on probation we would have been able to recruit payers that we call five stars today both on offense and defense. Getting these players then and who knows how dominating we could have been. Often we read that the Run N Shoot did not win anything. What is easily omitted are the reasons I brought up. The Oilers are the other example. In the NFL you need all the luck that you need. Toupee adams decided to hire Buddy Ryan knowing the “baggage” he came with which was obviously a recipe for disaster…and disaster it came.
Exactly, in this first game HCWF is building an “identity”. It takes time. With rice o roni and the bye week coming it gives us an ideal schedule to play against Colorado.
The bye week is after Colorado, no?
You are correct. Thank you for the correction. rice o roni could not come at a better time though.
I always thought the run and shoot was a good offense. It led to a Heisman Trophy and top 10 rankings for UH. The Oilers did well with it, making the playoffs numerous times. It was a difficult offense to run in bad weather though.
Think of how much success Bill Walsh, Holmgren and Andy Reid have had with a highly complicated offense. For years Andy Reid’s offense was viewed as great but not able to win the SB. He was ran out of town by the Eagles.
49ers
Packers
Chiefs
They have one thing in common. A great owner. The Oilers never did.
For those that weren’t expecting perfection in the first game of the season for the OL, I thought the OL was okay for the first game, with a lot of room for improvement. They have to get better each week to compete against higher level competition.
I am highly optimistic that is why I gave our offense a low grade. We have I believe great potential. Potential means nothing right now. Gotta take the next step against rice o roni. Writing this keep in mind that both our tackles left the door wide open for Weigman to see stars on Friday morning. Conner was lucky to come out unscathed.
Our offense is so predictable. Run up the middle on 1st and 2nd down, then short pass on 3rd down. If people in the stands can figure that out, what makes the coach think the other team can’t.
We rook a longshot down the feild on the second play of game
JUST WIN
I expect improvement from Week 1 to Week 2.
SFA had a ton of returning starters. We didn’t have nearly as much, so the team needs to continue building mojo togethrr
If Weigman can get more comfortable with his passing game, then the pieces will come together into a good dual threat offense.
I wouldn’t put to much stock in the offense being predictable. Its the first game of the season and Fritz kept it plain vanilla, because he could. It was the way the game unfolded. Give the team reps on your bread and butter plays. No need to get cute when you are up by two touchdowns.
Now if it was in the middle of the season and UH was behind and Fritz was predictable, then I would agree with you.
I think you’re right, JL about the vanilla offense because of the opponent… But 73 is correct from another perspective, which is where the concern comes from… It’s hard to overstate how bad the OL was… UH couldnt be creative on offense if they wanted to. Even the ‘usual’ jazzy stuff like jet sweeps were blown up by SFA. The Coogs couldnt run a double reverse or a flea flicker or anything else exotic, not even if they wanted to. The OL just wasnt good enough. The Coogs couldn’t even muscle their way for a yard on a 3rd & 4th & 1. Against an FCS school. It doesn’t matter how good anyone thinks SFA is. The Coogs can’t be taken seriously as a “P4” program if their OL can’t beat an FCS defensive front to get a yard.
Here’s to week 2 improvement. Go Coogs.
Need to have the QB practice roll out pass plays. Sitting in the pocket with a weak OL is going to put Weigman on the ground too much.
