Game Week: Utah vs Houston

They are being pretty secretive about it and have not shared numbers yet.

I haven’t seen anything different than what I’ve seen since July 31.

Because it blows. lol

Basketball is top 15. Football is probably bottom of the barrel. With a $10b guy as the chair of our board, it makes no sense.

I think he’ll start paying when he thinks there’s no other way to get it done. He’s like everyone else, always looking for a deal.

I’m not sure he really believes that will get it done and/or he doesn’t think that’s really his deal.

What he needs to do (imo) is round up a couple of other enthusiastic supporters, partner with the existing NIL collective, and make a big public push to establish a sustainable fund.

One of the things that I think is holding us back is that we’re out there trying to find a bunch of one-off deals and not really working in conjunction with Cougar Pride or pooling resources.

I know that some schools are also now partnering their NIL collectives with their traditional athletic funding groups so that donating to NIL counts toward the other benefits (i.e., money to LinkingCoogs would provide some level of Cougar Pride priority points/benefits).

Is Tilman is an NIL type guy? I haven’t seen anything stating his opinion. I understand him investing in things like Fertitta Center. A building with his name on it. NIL is essentially throwing money in a black hole with no return. Not many rich guys see the value in that.

He just complained about us building too many things and we need to start focusing on paying players.

Agree. It needs to be considered a call out to fans to support NIL.

we don’t have the fans that are willing to support NIL, i’d rather invest that money and get a return somewhere else

He is a restaurant guy, so he probably wants to pay the players like the waiting staff (~nil NIL).

We will need to provide the real income through tips…

We don’t have enough fans that come to games how are we going to support NIL

Bingo. People keep saying we gotta do our part. We don’t have the fan base to make our NIL competitive. We have to rely on our high net worth guys to get us competitive. It is what it is.

If the alums don’t want to support the team, why should it be on Tillman to spend all his money? If the university wants to compete at the highest levels, the university has to find the money to fund NIL.

Is this Utah’s first trip to Houston?

No. They have been to Houston to play Rice, when both were in the WAC. Hatfield’s wishbone gained 500 yds rushing, and Rice beat them 51-10 when they were 7-1 and ranked. That was in 1996. I was at that game with my father, who was a big Rice fan.

To me this means 1 of 2 things:

#1 - Our QB’s are at the top of their ability and we can’t expect anything better from them

or

#2 - Our coaches don’t know how to coach them up

Personally, I believe the answer lies in #1 above. Come on AC!

Go Coogs!

because times have changed…university athletics is now a rich man flex

Thought that was just having a luxury box or traveling by charter. I heard a rich guy give a talk last week. His flex was that he’s an instrument graded pilot up to 40k feet and owns a jet. Holy Cross undergrad.

I must have missed it. Is Parker Jenkins hurt or is he leaving us?

He’s not listed on this week’s injuries. Game log last shows he played v ISU on September 28! If he’s not injured he gone for sure! Maybe our new overlord can provide some insight.
