GAMEDAY THREAD: Houston @ Rice | 35-9 FINAL

I was at the Elton John, Billy Joel Concert. Mid 1990s, I think.

My takeaway was Elton John has a better music catalog than Billy Joel.

Coogs look more put together this season so far. Not great but a lot less of the super dumb stuff we saw last season.

Willie inherited guys who looked like Tarzan, and played like Jane. He’s got some of his guys now. As time goes on, he’ll have a full roster of guys who know how to Win. It only gets better with time under his leadership. Enjoy the ride, and count your blessings. He’s one of the best college football coaches in the country…

If I recall correctly. When we hired Herman, Fritz was one we looked as well while he was at SHSU. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but Herman was a solution for the short term but Fritz would have been a long term solution.

I thought that Billie Joel sang Elton’s songs better because he could still reach the high notes. After Elton John’s throat cancer he was limited.
They have so many songs that the concert could have gone on for a coup,e days.

Hiring an FCS coach after the end of 2014 would have brought out the pitchforks from our fanbase lol.

Agreed. Sometimes (often times) fan bases are ignorant. Almost EVERY Division 1 Head Football Coach started out as a GA, or position coach, or even a HS coach. To criticize Willie for ā€œcoming from lower level programsā€, is ignorant, at best, and, more likely shortsighted, and foolish. But every fan base has those kinda fans. Willie not only worked his way up, as most coaches do, but did almost ALL of it as A HEAD COACH…. Having success, EVERYWHERE he’s been. He also gets criticized for being ā€œoldā€. Again… that’s ignorant. I’d be willing to bet that many, if not the majority of National Championships, were won by guys in their 50s, 60s, and even 70s. Not by 30 and 40 year olds. Off my soapbox now… have a great day! :+1:

Watching from home, I really enjoyed the blocked punt and the ā€œlove tapā€ the Rice punter received.

Whatever happened to that guy? And why was it not roughing? Looked bad.

Looks like Parker #98 got part of the ball before the hit. Also think it is roughing only if hitting plant leg.

The ref said no roughing since it was blocked.

He was finally able to get up and walk off the field

I decided game day to go watch the game with my kids. I thought we’d just walk up to the ticket booth, but they moved it to the other side of the main parking lot, it was a crappy temporary shack, they closed online buying, they didn’t have printers, they had long lines, but all was not lost, it was refreshing to get in the stadium without a TSA screen first. No metal detectors, no bag check. How come we can’t do that?

Not what I remember…

I remember Dana getting cooked in 1st quarters due to terrible game planning and then being able to adjust fairly well…

I certainly remember the Navy game where we came out super flat and got down 17-7 at the half. I think that was the one where he got into an expletive exchange with some fans before half time. Lol

My Dad was at that concert

I chauffeured some friends to that concert. Pretty sure we spent the afternoon picking in one of our favorite cow pastures.

Since the concert ended early (someone told me it was the only Pink Floyd concert to ever get rained out) and since this was before cell phones, my buddies got to walk back to UH in the pouring rain.

Didn’t hear a single complaint. A good time was had by all… but especially by my friends shrooming their balls off to the lightning display.

Yeah and to your point the UT game comes to mind. I just have a feeling that too often our guys ran out of gas in the second half. Perhaps due to conditioning. All good.
