That first quarter was brutal.
Yes the slippery field sucked
Ridiculous take. The Astrodome cannot hold an event because it is a health hazard.
From Game 1 to Game 2: Did We Improve?
I expected to see improvement from Game 1 to Game 2 ā and I believe we did, though thereās still plenty to unpack.
Offense ā 10/20
Our offensive line is still finding its rhythm. We gave up three sacks, and it took nearly an entire half to find any real estate. Our wide receivers need to be more aggressive ā but can they be right now? Letās be fair: weāre working with an entirely new OL. Like it or not, building this offense is like cooking a paella ā it takes time. This unit isnāt going to āclickā overnight.
The most intriguing moment was our 75-yard pass play. Thereās a hummingbird telling me thereās a lot more under the hood. By relying on Tanner to keep the chains moving, we saw the emergence of McGary, and thatās no coincidence ā itās by design. Why open the playbook wide when you donāt need to?
Iām convinced weāll āfinallyā see our WRs more involved against Colorado. How much? Thatāll be dictated by the opponent, as always. What weāve seen through the first two games may not be pretty, but itās exactly what the doctor ordered. Remember, this OL was practically MIA last season.
My concern now is injuries ā weāre already getting thin, and we need power runners at this stage.
Defense ā 13/20
The defense responded well and answered the call. Apart from a few blown assignments, they were consistent. But letās be honest ā itās hard to fully analyze a defense against a spread-option offense. The real test is coming.
Our DBs and safeties will face their first true challenge against Coloradoās passing attack, which uses far more WRs than weāve seen so far.
Big Picture
Our first half may not have looked like Ashley Montana on the cover of Sports Illustrated, but hereās the important part: weāre 2-0. Some teams in recent memory have found ways to lose these games.
Nobody promised weād look like Mike Tyson after Week 1. Patience is the hardest thing to practice ā but right now, thatās exactly what we need.
On to Colorado ā letās kick some asses.
If you donāt score TDs it is hard to win games. UHās defense has given up one TD in two games.
Lol vegetation growing through the stadium, hilarious
I saw Pink Floyd in the stadiumā¦just for a few minutes. There was a huge thunderstorm and field became a swimming pool. We were S.O.L.
Good analysis.
Additionally:
Was hoping to see more out of Butler but he seemed tentative approaching the line.
Goldilocks had a nice little run burrowing under and through the line. Wouldnāt read too much into that since it was garbage time.
OL shuffling was disruptive. The sustained drives were encouraging.
Pratt s cameo was excellent!
45 looked like a big puppy but lots of potential
Sat just behind dean connors mom and aunt. They were pissed at the chant and absolutely loved his big runs, especially the last one.
CWs bomb was a thing of beauty. Dropped it right in the bucket and on stride. Glad to see Boogie get going.
Finally, I never want to see the inside of that dump and its entitled, obnoxious āfanā base again. Time to let them twist in the wind. AMF
This is a national TV game on ESPN. Big 12 does what ESPN says, and they say this game on Friday, so that is when we play. Weāve always done well on Thursday or Friday national TV games in the past. I am hopeful weāll do well against Colorado too.
Just had to chime in & sayā¦
Rice has some cute & fit-looking nerdy girls;
the kind that look like they do yoga & pilates and are all about health & fitness.
I took a walk through their tailgates and WOWZERS
This was a terrible broadcast. I counted maybe four cameras. I had to readjust my tv settings several times. The contrast was terrible. Clearly this is on the rodent. Amateur hour.
I did notice it was a downgrade from the first game
Ryan showed a picture of the stairway he had to take to get the press box. Despite any work Rice has done, the stadium is a dinosaur and Iām sure that effects the broadcast
Corey Platt will be on Talkinā Bout Them Cougars at 8 p.m. He has such a great story.
Kellen Sampson and Galen Robinson will also be on. Join us.
I remember that. Until it started coming down, it seemed apprapo of Pink Floyd.
Also saw Elton John and Billy Joel there.
I was there working one of the concession stands. We had to get there so early I was able to watch the sound check which was so cool. It was a little like my own private concert. What was cool about the storm was that it seemed like the lightning was in time with the music.
It was not cool at all. The concert ended. I did see Pink Floyd a few years before at the Astrodome. Great concert. I saw David Gilmour multiple times. Guy is amazing.
Some thoughts on the game
First half offense was so out of sync it seemed by my untrained eye Weigman scrambled into a couple sacks.
Connors run jump started the entire team, but defense was stout last night especially against the quirky offensive system Rice is using now.
Why did they go for 2 when they got that touchdown? I thought nerds were supposed to be smart.
Rice stadium could still be a nice venue if they would actually put some money into it, but we know Rice doesnāt give a crap about sports.
The lighting in the stadium is god awful its worse than Robertson before the Dynamo insisted on upgrades when they played at the Rob.
Koziel is a grown man he is our #1 WR I donāt care if he is a TE.
I am trying to be as unbiased as possible with taking in consideration the opposition. Read between the lines for what I pointed out.
IMO Tanner with another 10/15lbs is first round pick potential.
