I love that the highlight clips have the original radio broadcast call of Tom Franklin and Ted Pardee. You canât get that type of excitement with national television announcers.
1988 gets overlooked due to the 89 season, but there are some gems, including this game that set two school records:
I was there.
Glenn Montgomery and the rest of our d-linemen tore âem up!
I was there also, I remember a big push to try and get a huge crowd out for that game because it was nationally televised, but the crowd ended up not being very big but a big win for us
I think that win got us back in the rankings for the first time in quite a while.
The loss to Arkansas that year still aggravates me.
But the snowstorm win in Lubbock was pretty awesome.
That was when we used to be able to beat Texas Tech lol
Wyoming was #10? Damn
I celebrated that as well.
Back when teams had 2 uniforms all season, a home & away and dealt with it.
Tough times, man.
Thatâs a Willie Fritz score right dere!!!

25 years ago today, Houston went into Tiger Stadium and beat LSU 20-7. Ketric Sanford had 105 yards and a touchdown.
LSU head coach Gerry DiNardo was fired after the game in the locker room, paving the way for Nick Saban.
I assume you were at that game.
I donât remember this one. I remember the 35-34 one from a few years before because UH Rugby was playing in Louisiana and the locals couldnât believe the Coogs were ahead all game. Weâve only played LSU three times in our history and i donât think i actually saw any of them live
Helton had some good assistants on the staff that year with Bumpas and Koennig.
Heltonâs last year before we hired Dimel. I had kind of checked out on Helton by then. At the time i knew i wanted to move on from Helton but thought firing a 7-4 coach was wrong. How times changed
Helton was fired 8 days later and deserved to be. There was 9-10 win talent on that team.
At the time, Gladchuk thought he had Bob Pruitt on the hook as his next coach.
Been fortunate to be on the sideline for all three Houston/LSU games - 96, 99, 00. Have purple/gold-painted grass from the 50-yard line from that night.
Expect to be on the sideline in 2027, too.
