Honest Thoughts about the Team

Kellen works with the 4s…

Haven’t seen much development from his group throughout the season.

I think that Miller should replace Uzan.

Milos cannot get past his defenders and dribbles endlessly to no avail.

Thought that Miller played well and seems quicker than Uzan.

Would’ve been nice to get Blake Buchanan type production from our transfer big guy… he’s been solid for ISU.

Milos needs to cut more… Sharp, too

We have played potentially 3 FF teams, all back to back with 2 on the road. We could get back to FF and face theses same teams again, no miracle, just adjustments.

Not sure Miller is ready for that role. Uzan a much better three shooter.

We do not need more 3 point shooting.

We need penetration into the paint.

Uzan is not providing that.

Uzan, one thing that stands out to me, last year 38% of his shots were 3s, this year 54%. Last year eFG% vs Q1 teams 51% its 43% this year.

As for the team, if you just look at last year’s stats, the ones we have excelled at under CKS; FGA, RBs, and TOs, are almost identical this year to past seasons, which honestly surprised me. Even if you zoom in and look at conference-only stats, they aren’t far off. The one stat that sticks out this year vs last is 3pt shooting.

Last year UH shot .394 from 3, which was 4th nationally. This year, UH is shooting .336, which is 215th nationally. To compound that, last year UH shot 19 3s per game, this year 26.

We shoot all those 3’s because we have no Inside Game.

This is first season in forever that we are lacking at the Inside Game. And no longer get the volume of Offensive rebounds.

This is not curable this season. If it was Sampson would have cured it already.

Diane should fix it next season :basketball:

Something else for the low post scoring. We are actually shooting significantly better at the rim and in the paint this year vs last, but not shooting nearly as much.

I 100% agree it does feel that way, I was mildly surprised that it was as close as it is. Last year we got 39% of our offensive rebounds, this year 38%. Per game, that breaks down to 13.1 ORebs vs 12.8.

610 saying we will make elite 8 but with no inside game it’ll be tough later in tournament.

Said we looked gassed and that 3 game stretch just took it out of us.

I don’t like 610, but that’s pretty fair across the board

When I was a kid, I saw numerous UH games in Delmar Field House. Hayes, Chaney, the Bell brothers, Theodis Lee…I remember them all. I was at the UH-UCLA game in the Dome. I watched Hakeem play in the Superdome. I listened to Art Casper on the radio religiously back in the day. I’ve died a thousand deaths with the Coogs, but one thing stands clear: Last night was a dismal stinker.

A ‘dismal stinker’ is sometimes exactly what a team needs. Didn’t Kansas come at us after they had a ‘dismal stinker’ vs Cincinnati?

It was a bad loss against a historically good program at home. Congrats on your longevity, but we don’t have to go back that far into the history books to find losses that were worse.

For example: 2014-15 Houston Cougars Men's Schedule and Results | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com

Of the 19 losses that years some of them came to Harvard, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, South Carolina State, Tulsa, Tulane and East Carolina. Yikes.

We got destroyed by Iowa State in the conference tournament just two years ago - not even competitive. We also got run out of the building at Kansas earlier that season, only drawing within 13 after Cryer went on a late 2nd half tear after the game was out of reach.

Last year’s run was so good that people forgot all previous years, apparently.

Fun fact: He also beat Texas tekk and UConn that year.

Oh yeah, they completely punted that conference championship game. That was a beat-up group.

Saying this season is not curable or CKS would have done it, is a little premature until the season is over. I saw some line ups on the floor I had not seen before. That tells me CKS is still tweaking, looking for that combination or player that can be the 6th man to step up when we need it.
