We need him back at some point to show he is healthy….trade him this winter.
Should be able to get a couple of really good prospects.
I think we should see if Bregs will sign a 4-5 year deal with a nice AAV.
Guys a gamer.

Bregman has played through injuries. It’s common knowledge. Who knows. There are mountains of guys that play through chronic injuries and we barely hear about it. Back when I was a kid playing American Legion we used to have keg parties and show the chicks all our injuries. One common theme was, “imagine what MLB players go through for 162 with painkillers coursing through their veins.”
If its true that Tucker is shagging and running then I just don’t understand it. But I’m not a cryptic, highly paid team doctor.
I can run, but he can’t run hard. So basically like the end of last season, right?
Ummm…yeah. That’s exactly what I meant - being on the IL devalues a player such that they wouldn’t get much of a return, regardless of how good they might be “someday”.
What I was saying, hypothetically, was that maybe they think his career is over. Which would mean getting anything for him would be value.
Obviously the likelihood of another team not arriving at the same conclusion would be remote. So it’s not going to happen. My bigger point was to be provocative about where the club thinks he is health-wise.
Right. I don’t think his case of summer softness is viewed as terminal.
The only situation I see trading a superstar on the IL is where the main considerations are the contracts.
Speaking of guys whose contributions are limited to hopes and dreams, Whitley is back in the news:
https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/astros-forrest-whitley-injury-19615751.php
I don’t think it’s playing out like “summer softness.” In that situation I would expect him to come back for a game or two, whimper, and say he’s not ready. The inside media guys know more than us. They say he’s not ready for an active rehab. There’s a case to be made (inductively) that the Astros medical staff is smoking weed and think they’re in retirement.
Whitley will pitch less inning in his career than McCullers will pitch over the rest of his. Imo
He’s been throwing well the last month.
I’d rather have him at 98-99mph with a good slider than gascan.
It be a nice arm……not too many teams can bring that kind of arm in from the front side of the pen.
I truly hope he has gotten over the mental stuff as well.
He reminds me of a more brittle Ben McDonald
I think it would be cool if, when Kukuchi pitches that they play “rock and roll Kikuchi-coo, Lordy mama, light my fuse”
Or, “Lordy Mama heal Tuck’s bruise…”
I think that’s exactly what’s happening every time he starts going through drills that require hard cuts and simulated game action.
If it’s a broken bone, then he’s not jogging around and taking BP (or he shouldn’t be). Even if the initial diagnosis was wrong, he would not be up and running on it if they suspected a stress facture or whatever.
It’s possible that he developed compaction syndrome, but I have a hard time believing the Astros medical staff would have botched things to the point where that happened, so that’s unlikely.
As I’ve said before, I don’t doubt that he has pain when he tries to run. Assuming that his continuing baseball activities mean that there’s no structural threat to running, this becomes a matter of pain tolerance. Everyone reacts to that differently - some can and will tough it out, and some aren’t willing to do that for a variety of reasons. He may think he would be hurting the team by playing, or he may be mostly worried about what it would do to his numbers.
All I know is that if you can take BP and shag flies in the OF, you “can” play, even if you get some ouchies. The stuff he is doing on the field undercuts the theory that the injury is “serious.” There’s no injury news from the Astros because there’s no injury news beyond “his leg hurts sometimes.”
It’s not just this year. For the most part he has always hit better on the road, but the last two seasons its become really noticeable. Last year at MMP he hit .278/.390/.488 and .307/.425/…678 on the road. He also hit 21 HRs on the road last year compared to 10 at MMP.
I think he has trouble with the batters eye at MMP and I think he is too pull focused at MMP. I wish he would take advantage of the Crawford Boxes like he did against Castillo in the playoffs.
I’m going to tell a short personal story….so those of you rolling your eyes already should stop reading now.
I had injuries that I played through in college in consecutive years and missed three games total.
I had a badly torn meniscus in my right knee and MCL grade 2 sprain……i got shots and took pain meds and played the entire season missing one game….it affected my running the base paths a bit but I still hit well, played a decent 3rd base and even closed some games despite it being my push leg.
Another season the week before pre-conference started I was in a cage with a machine….a 92mph FB smashed the middle finger against the bat on my left hand( glove hand).
I missed the first two games then could not stand it and began playing.
The finger had broken in two places and dislocated….it was popped back in but still broken.
I had the trainers buddy tape it tight before I batted each time….i hit with my left middle finger and ring finger barely touching the bat and basically let go on contact.
After hitting I would have them cut off the tape so I could get my hand into my mitt….played 3rd and pitched for six weeks like that before it felt semi normal…each time I caught a throw or fielded a grounder I felt pain like you wouldn’t believe.
I have had two hand surgeries since to try and relieve some pain I still have with it today.( it does not lay flat, permanently bent)
Three surgeries on right knee….Dr. says it’s from playing with the torn meniscus and weak ligaments.
I love baseball so much and did whatever it took to stay on the field….im not saying this stuff to brag and be some sort of tough guy….but i experienced this first hand….i saw teammates and other guys I played with do the same.
I knew my position would be there when I got back….but i played because i loved it and because i knew even injured I could have a positive impact on my team.
We never made the NCAA tournament damn time, but we tried like heck.
It’s all about how much you want it……IMO there are other guys on the Astros and around the league that would have been back long ago……but that’s not the type of player he is.
I think if it was something super serious then Dana would be the first to defend Tucker and say it turned out to be much worse than we originally thought and KT is doing everything in his power to get back.
I have not heard anything like that at all……all I have heard from Dana is the stuff about him participating in the pre-game stuff……he also said “it is very frustrating “.
Not once that I’m aware has. He come out and really defended why KT has been out this long.
Believe what yall want.
Damn Pollard, you should have been part of this article in the NYT:
How the Olympics Break Athletes’ Bodies https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/01/world/olympics/athlete-injuries.html?unlocked_article_code=1._00.1srL.EMP3thgQ_0uW
You sir are a genius.
No Leon AGAIN!!!
Was his BP session too good? WTF?!
I’ve had back fusion surgery and rotator cuff surgery as well….Im paying for a lot of stuff today.
With that knee I remember the Dr. pushing my knee back towards my chest….i can still remember the pain and wanting to scream….but i was able to hold it in and get signed off on……
I’m holding off knee replacement as long as possible.
How about the Ballad of the Tomato Can?
So the plan is to get guys on base and then have crap bats not drive them in….cool
I’m so glad that Espada is not playing Leon.
Wouldn’t want him to have a couple of good AB’s and have to sit Jake.
I’m not even gonna comment on our new ace pitcher that cost us Bloss and Joey.
Just depressing.
Wait for the bullpen…
