Almost all of those guys are finishing up as Dodgers.
Astros offer Bregman 6 years/$156 million
That’s a pretty healthy offer, imo.
Agreed.
If he walks then so be it……that is MORE than fair….the last two years of even that contract will likely be an albatross.
Yup, if he doesn’t take it, move on.
They offered him that about three weeks ago.
My biggest concern is with Boras as his agent he is going to take forever to make a decision.
Dana needs to be prepared to move on if that’s the case.
The money can be spent elsewhere if AB doesn’t want it.
It being the richest contract (if signed) in team history definitely suggests it’s a more than fair offer.
But I don’t think it’s enough to get it done, at least, not at the AAV. Soto’s decision will dictate how quickly Bregs ends up signing with someone, and I’m sure the Astros would be prepared to up the offer as well. I just hope Bregman, at the end of the day, takes his best offer and goes back to the Astros and gives them right of first refusal to counter if needed.
I’m still convinced staying in Houston is his first choice.
The only enhancement I can see is offering some kind of option at the end.
Maybe a little closer to the front, too (similar to what Correa initially signed with the Twins that allowed him to take an option after year 1 and reset the market the following year). Bregman’s older, though, and he may not wanna do that. Correa also took his sweet time to sign, which probably also influenced the early option provision. But say, keep it at the 6/156, front-load it to 30-35 million year 1 and allow Bregman to opt out for 2026. This would also give the Astros a little flexibility, too, and allow them to go all in for next year with Framber and Tucker still in tow (if no deal/trade is made involving them prior). I still think the Astros would need one more big bat for next season (preferably at 1B), but there would be some solid short-term solutions available there as well (still in the camp of liking Paul Goldschmidt on a one-year deal).
Astros fall back to AB signed with Giants.
He got the same AAV as what we offered Bregman except 7 years instead of 6. This will probably drive the price of Bregman up a little.
Soto to the Mets
There have been reports tonight that the Astros up the offer to $186 million for Bregman.
That’s good.
Guy will never be in the postseason again….but boy did he get paid.
We’ll hear soon enough on Bregman, now. I bet his decision comes before Wednesday.
Report: Alex Bregman targeted by AL contender after Soto deal
yup…he gone…if anything, it ups the asking price way up
Man, Yankees fans are gonna be super-disappointed if Bregman is supposed to replace Soto’s bat.
at least Bregman plays defense
The Yankees could probably also get Bregman, Corbin Burnes and Max Fried for the money they were gonna pay Soto, too. That’s a better team move, IMO…things could still easily work out for them in the long run…oh, I’m sure they’ll be fine
