yeah, not really buying Bregman is next in line at the top of their list…could very well be somewhat of a knee-jerk if they did it…Yankee Stadium not the best of venues for him anyway (plus Yankee fans will have zero patience for his April/May swoons))…Fenway, though, different story.
If there’s anything this team doesn’t need its a guy that can’t draw a walk. That might be the biggest thing I’ll miss about Bregman. I do think Dezenzo will be a very good player. He also has that Bregman-esque tenacity
Negative…it would be quite the opposite. If Bregman stays, the likelihood Tucker and/or Framber plays out the last year here is greater…because why wouldn’t you lean towards keeping them (unless you are overwhelmed and floored by an offer)? At that point, Astros stay in win-now mode for one more year, at least. You can never underestimate the importance of rings. They are priceless. Even if you risk losing Framber and Tucker for nothing, it’s still worth it if it results in a ring.
I like him (good on-base guy, solid power, good speed), just feel like he might still be a year or so away (the defensive marks are nowhere near Bregman’s, either, and I’m sure he’s a little behind Brice Matthews in the pecking order as well).
All the same, I’m thinking about NEXT year. Beyond that, groom away with the kid.
I love that the kid is raking in winter ball….there is tough pitching there and he has walked as many times as he has struckout….
He has absolutely been rushed, no doubt about it….but I don’t think he needs another year in the minors….
Let him take some lumps on the big boy team….he is the type kid that will figure it out IMO.
If AB is gone I want him there….no need on someone like Polanco or similar blocking him.
I like Matthews a lot….i think they want to keep him at SS as long as possible….i could see them dealing Pena next year if he doesn’t up his game.
