I wonder if Crane is starting to harvest his gains? I really don’t see a fire in his belly to win another WS. He’s been talking about building an Astros entertainment district near the ballpark but has yet to start on it. Hopefully I’m wrong.
He’s 13th richest owner with the 5th highest payroll. I’d say he is committed. He just put himself in a bind by signing two bad contracts in ‘23. He wants to win but he also probably wants to get the farm system going again. Signing a Santander costs you more draft picks and international pool money.
This team is still pretty good. If this team finds an outfielder or Chas regains his form, they are in the ALCS again.
Regardless, this has been the greatest run in Houston sports history. I still think we let 2019 get away.
2023 was ripe for the taking, too.
But we still have Yordan.
Plus the revenue took a big hit with the change in the TV deal. I agree with you in that the best path forward is to get out from under some bad contracts and definitely rebuild the farm system. Opportunity is there to do it now while the team is still competitive and the division is not so strong.
If the season hinges on Chas bouncing back after being told Meyers was about to be the future of CF then Lil Enos has lost his mind and needs to go be the GM of the Fort Riley Bush Weasels.
If Lil Enos goes out and gets a starting CF we can make the Division Championship Series at least. And we can surmise that Lil Enos is a safe, sane, moral individual that cares about his community. Only Lil Enos can decide.
“Cause he’s thirsty, dummie.”
Doesn’t even have to be a CF Funk….it can be a RF.
I’m fine with Meyers in CF and Chas being a 4th OF.
But we can not run out Dubon, Meyers and Chas in the outfield too often.
Dezenzo is an option in the OF since the corners are covered now….but probably just LF….he has a good arm but I don’t know if he can cover enough ground to play RF.
I think Dezenzo can hit at this level and put up some good numbers….but playing once a week with a couple PH AB’s is not going to get him in any kind of rhythm.
Let’s also see what Pedro and Shay do this spring….its not fair to give up on a guy who got 20-30 random AB’s in their first taste.
The trend is older and older rookies……late bloomers everywhere….you just never know.
Christian Walker never got more than 50 or so AB’s until he was TWENTY-EIGHT….then he finally got a real shot.
That GIF has me mesmerized! Bregman should remain an Astro!
Sh-t, let him take the offer he got from us……it was more than fair….put Paredes in the OF….
Then let Bregman get some DH time with Yordan to rest the arm….Paredes comes to third. Yordan in LF and Dubon in center or right.
There’s still a way to make it work if all parties really wanted it….
But Bregman would have to tell Boras to stand down.
Good point…while Dana has confirmed pivoting from Bregman, I’m curious if that also means the offer isn’t still on the table. It is, to the best of our knowledge, the only published one still out there.
I asked that earlier and the only response I saw was “that offer was never made to be accepted.”
I THINK he had to reject the offer to proceed to the next step (and McTaggart reported that he did decline), but I imagine the Astros would still sign him if he came back to the table and wanted to do that deal. That ship has sailed, though.
The Astros extended two offers to Bregman that we know of (Unless they have upped their offer since, behind closed doors). The non serious offer: The qualifying offer of $21.05 million, which was just a formality, to receive the compensatory draft pick, if he ends up signing with another team, as Mctaggart states in this article Alex Bregman declines qualifying offer from Astros and their serious offer which I think was six years, $156 million. Obviously, Bregman is trying to get a better deal than that and also, he could just be ready for a change of scenery. Who knows. But that is what I meant when I said that “that offer was never made to be accepted.” I was talking about the qualifying offer. Not their serious offer.
This is fun:
I didn’t even remember who responded.
Anyway, my question was generally whether there was still a “standing” offer that Bregman could still accept. Everything points to both parties having moved on, even if that means him taking only an equivalent offer elsewhere.
I can’t stand Pedersen but that’s really garden variety press conference stuff. Its almost like he was trying to be respectful. But he is a goober and top 10 most punchable face in the league.
Even his name is douchey.
Not sure which guy has the lower IQ, Blake Snell or Joc Pederson.
If you put the two of them in a car with a roadmap and said here….drive from Houston to NYC.
Guaranteed, these two morons wind up in California….after about 7 days.
You’re giving them too much credit. They’d end up back in Houston.
