If Bregman wants to sign with Toronto have at it!!!
Even if they’re at 6/180 the Astros offer is still financially better. They’re losing Vlad and Bo next year and they’re having a really hard time getting FA to come to Toronto.

So Boras thought he would get Bregman 200+ on the open market.
It didn’t happen.
So then they spin back around and play the narrative the Astros are still in and interested….but instead of taking the offer….or getting the Astros to go up ever so slightly and book it……Boras has used the Astros again to try and drive up the market on Alex.
I personally think Dana should tell them to get lost.
Defense may go down a bit, but I’d bet that Paredes puts up better numbers than Bregman has the last couple of years……so why put 15O-16OM on the books?
Save that cash for pitching or OF in 2026 depending on your needs.
Finally the last year of McCullars at $17.7 million in 26.
They can sign a good pitcher for 26.
Back load that $ starting in 27.
As remember it for Altuve, Edwin Diaz getting hurt in baseball classic.
Insurance pays 75% maybe more.
All still counts toward luxury tax.
Hence the back load in 27 based on this owners previous spending.
Surely we have insurance on Lance and are getting some of his salary back.
The payroll will look SO much better after this year from the standpoint of flexibility and absence of “dead money.” There should be around $70MM in commitments off the books. Arbitration will obviously eat up part of that, and it’ll be time to try to lock up Yainer, Abrueu, and maybe Brown, if they can do it, but they’ll have some room to work finally. And yeah, 2027 looks even better.
I think Altuve’s contract is front-loaded such that the last couple of years are much lower (like by $20MM). It seems like there might be an opportunity to re-work that if he was serious about doing “whatever” to get Bregman back. Personally, I wouldn’t ask him to do that because that’s really just taking money from him and giving it to Bregman, but it’s out there.
$13 million per 28/29.
Altuve signing bonus paid out in 24.
After this season they have the following off the books:
Abreu 19.5
Montero 11.5
Caratini 6
Framber 18
Pressly 5.5
Total 60.5
After '26
McCullers 17.7
Greinke 12.5
Dubon 6 (projected ARB)
Chas 5 (ARB)
Abreu 5 (ARB)
Garcia 4 (ARB)
Total 50.2
Don’t forget we have to lock up Meyers, McCormick and Singleton….personally I would buy out their arbitration years and extend them all.
Gotta get these guys locked up before they hit free agency….no way we can keep all three if that happens.
Will Singleton be the oldest arbitration-eligible player ever? I think he’ll be like 36 before he’s a FA.
Definitely need to get those guys secured ASAP.
I honestly don’t know why he’s on the roster anymore.
Dezenzo can back up Walker.
You forgot to put on your Dana Glasses. Dezenzo hits from the right side; therefore, he cannot supplant a lefty hitter.
Well, one crappy option is off the table…
Mariners saved us from ourselves right there.
Ridiculous.
He’s not as good as he thinks he is…and is now on the decline. I would start lowering the offer if I’m Jim Crane.
No need to lower anything….he is gonna go somewhere else that he really doesn’t want to go….
He’s a grown man, he could have told Boras he wanted to stay….im sure Brown would have even upped it just a bit….
He wants 30 per for 6 years minimum….good luck.
I want Dana to come out and say “ we are out”!
Sounding like Detroit or Boston
Lol
Its been sounding like them for three months
It’s been sounding more like this:
He doesn’t want to go to Detroit……if he did he’d have been gone already.
IMO, one of the factors against Detroit is the size of the ballpark.
Bregs would have about 8-10 HR’s if he played there….players do not like playing in ballparks that affect their stats.
There are ballparks where pitchers refuse to sign.
And going to Detroit with an opt-out after 1 year would be even worse because he’ll be looking for another contract with down offensive numbers and being a year older.
I can’t see Detroit happening unless the money is just stupid good.
