Houston Astros Baseball & MLB Discussions

If you had to project 6-8 years out who would be the cornerstone of the franchise?

Matthews
Smith
Melton
Someone else

I don’t watch AA or AAA religiously but everything I see of Melton says he’s got future star power. Power, speed, hits to all fields, defense, aggressive linear baseball swing. And his posture at the plate and on the bases tell me other teams will absolutely hate him. The guy oozes confidence.

Yainer.

But of guys not currently on the team I’d go with Smith.

Best bat to ball skills with easy power….

Melton is more athletic Tucker by quite a bit….he could turn out to be better than Tucker….or not be any better than what we have.

It is all going to depend on the hit tool with Melton….he has easy power and runs like the wind….also, gonna prove he isn’t injury prone.

So you have him being anywhere below Jake “The Rake” Meyers status or better than Kyle Tucker in 5 yrs. Just messing w ya Pollard , but you gotta do little better than that. We count on you. Tighten it up little bit.

I just don’t have a great read on him….i have seen him play multiple times and he is great in the OF.

He has power to all fields and speed to burn….like I said it’s all about the swing and miss with this guy….

If he turns into an All-Star I would not be surprised….but I would not be surprised if he tops out as a fourth OF type guy.

More athletic Kyle Tucker

For me he is a guy with an incredibly high ceiling but an extremely low floor.

That’s my honest take on him Jesse.

The most important question this year is who exactly is Jeremy Pena.

We all knew Peña would have his sophomore jinx. But he’s been disappointing at times

I think this year he shows us who is he.

If he is the guy that won the MVP in the WS the Astros have a great chance for another pennant. If he is the guy last year that was inconsistent at the plate and in the field…bad things man.

We’ll allow it.. Honesty is appreciated for shoaaaa.

Jesse, wasn’t he drafted like 3 or 4 times?

Maybe I’m thinking of someone else….i was thinking he played C , but it said infielder.

Sorry, outside doing yard work. Im going to say IF, pretty sure 2nd base & overlapped Mark Belanger’s at SS.
Might be wrong but i like play game within myself n then look up later, when its not critical answer. I’ll look at it tonight.

He was behind the plate iirc when the Astros pitched a No- Hitter in WS vs Phillies. He was regarded among the best umpires n consistently graded out on Top when Umpire grades were released.

Dana Brown said Lance has been throwing off a mound with NO discomfort.
Said he is throwing the fastball 90mph….he obviously has more in the tank but this is where he is right now.

I posted a link last week I think , that had video on Twitter of him throwing the CB and sweeper.

Now this next part pisses me off….Garcia is still just throwing off flat ground? WTH?
He was close to a legit rehab assignment last year….he did not get shut down for pain….just decided to slow him down….Personally I think it’s a lack of stamina….i don’t know why they allow him to
Get all swole up….and now 5 months later he’s not even on a mound!?
They are gonna let him eat his way out of the league….y’all may think I’m kidding but a former teammate of mine did just that.

But is he throwing the UFO?

Ben Gamel is returning to the Astros one year deal.

Wow….wont even fork out cash for Verdugo?

If they are starting Melton in CF or RF and Gamel is just a bat then okay.

If Gamel is gonna start then the OF is complete garbage.

I think he’s just a piece to building the Team best way possible w $,$ obviously a factor. Imo i don’t thk there’s any clarity on who’s your RF & CF Opening Day. Let them compete for 5-6 weeks in ST.
