It looks like it is mainly an invite to spring training. He gets the full amount if he makes the team out of spring training. Just more competition. They also have Taylor Trammell and Melton competing at spring training. I think there is one or two more in that group.
Taylor Trammel even being invited to camp is a joke….
Great athlete but he can’t hit MLB pitching……like AT ALL.
Just rolling the dice at this point hoping to hit three 7’s in a row.
If you combine hitting and fielding and base running can we now say that dubon is our best choice as a starting outfielder?
Astros increased the offer to Bregman last night….reported by multiple outlets….
He turned it down.
Time to tell this guy to piss off.
You get to stay in a no-income state, not move( and apparently the wife doesn’t want to) and you are still saying no?
Let’s say they only bumped it say 2M a year….thats an extra 12M….is there anyone here that can’t live off 168M? And this is after the first 100M he already made?
Like I said, piss off you greedy bastard.
I really thought that would be the cover he needed to come back and save face. Boras is the one telling him to slow roll it. I’m with you.
The minute I read he turned it down I hoped Dana would withdraw the the offer…and in a very public way.
While we have no details of the new offer, I’m not buying that it’s a substantial increase. Probably done in an effort to spite Boras/Bregman (knowing full well it would get turned down again) and take more possible heat off the front office’s urgency to want to re-sign him this late in the game…word is, it’s already been turned down, which leads me to believe it wasn’t much better.
But I’m vehemently opposed to ANY increased offer for Bregman when the initial offer has not only been probably the best one he’s received, but also the only published offer out there!
Don’t do it, Dana. If you increased it slightly, and he ultimately accepts, fine…but I certainly wouldn’t get into any game of chicken with this camp…at the end of the day, you’re ultimately only competing against yourself, and Boras has swindled these kinds of deals as well (see Alex Rodriguez a la 1999).
Boras can eat sh-t.
I hope Bregman has to take an offer from the Blue Jays….he can move 2,000 miles and have half his paycheck disappear.
If I was Brown I’d offer fewer years and lower per year. Go away Alex. Take your declining skills somewhere else.
I imagine the upped offer was maybe enough to give him the AAV raise he was looking for…but I bet another sticking point was the Astros asking Bregman to have to take peanuts in year one to keep their luxury tax constraints manageable, and then go up significantly on the AAV once the money they’re set to have come off the books goes into effect after this season.
Yeah, I doubt he was offered anything resembling “peanuts.”
Go kick rocks, AB.
It’s ALL relative, right? LOL
Jay, I just can’t imagine them offering him the “AAV” that he wants……that would mean he was offered 180M for 6 years.
If he was offered that and turned it down!?
If it comes out that he was truly offered that much cash and said no….well, when he comes back with whatever team, he will get booed.
Look, I’m all for guys getting big money….i have never been against that….but sometimes enough is enough….
I do not have an issue with Dana’s handling of Bregman…so far. My issue is Dana knew we would reach this point of futility and opted to not upgrade a depleted outfield. By logic he wasn’t gonna keep Bregman. And by choice he has no outfield. If he’s mired in third, eleven games out of first in August, it’s all on him.
oh, I get it…as I said in my earlier post, I am opposed to them upping the offer to begin with.
I was just speculating on what it might have been if it was increased.
Bregman’s first mistake in all this was deciding to stay completely out of the negotiations process and let Boras handle it all. While you gotta let agents go to work for you, at the end of the day, it’s the players themselves that determine their worth, and Bregs shoulda stepped in on this nonsense a long time ago. Once he signs his new deal, the first thig he needs to do is fire Boras permananently…it’s not like he’s gonna need him again anyway
Now the Underground is trying to force Verdugo to the Astros. I hate that the team is in this position. Altuve is too old to have to mentor and discipline someone like Verdugo. If you’re a bunch of bombers expected to win the division by 12 games you can hide a personality like that. But I don’t know if Espada can manage both Verdugo and the team at the same time.
He made like $9MM last year. If the Astros pay him even half that after passing on Grichuk……
This lefty bat obsession is something else.
This is proving to be one of Dana’s biggest faults……for a team that is “supposed “ to be so forward thinking in analytics this is Fred Flintstone thinking.
Still seeing Stros w at least Top 10 MLB power ranking.
Good considering the OF.
Playoffs again w some home grown help on the way .
Kenley Jansen 2 Angels today. Could cost Stros a win or 2.
Zero new about AB.

I just saw a story that Rendon may be out for the season with hip surgery. It’s crazy how fast that dude broke down.
