Houston Astros Baseball & MLB Discussions

Set up by an intentional walk.

Unbelievable.

Truth is, injuries decimated the team. You can say what you want about Peña and Alvarez, but it is not their fault!

How can it be Alvarez’ fault. He was playing World of Warcraft

Well, heads will need to roll. Start with the hitting coach. Perhaps the third base coach too.

This year sucked, but I’m excited by some of the guys that came up, Peña’s progress at the plate, Paredes and Correa. And having the huge salary albatrosses coming off the books means they can make some meaningful moves this offseason.

F-----!!

Start with the training staff. Then fire the doctor. Then fire Alvarez and Frambers’ personal psychologists. Fire Bagwell.

Then start with the hitting coaches.

I understand things come to an end and losing is part of it. People get old. But Dana waited waaaaaaaay too long to try and solve the OF issue. He got behind the 8-ball and honestly, he picked up a guy that did real damage to our chances. I applaud his signing of Correa and Urias. It wasn’t all bad. I just think you need a cornerstone CF that can play 140-145 games and either give you great OB % or who hits for a reasonably high average and can steal a base or two. And stop playing guys that suck because of the money they are making!!!
Lets let Abreu and Lance be lessons for rhe future. I’m gonna miss the baseball board and October baseball.

Rant over deep in the foggy night of the 281

Second straight start Blubaugh was cruising along and Espada pulled him before he could qualify for the win, yet he’ll leave Valdez in after giving up six runs in one inning.

A great run.

And no JP France. Thought he would chip in.

Put Cole in CF and give him 150 games….kid will go 30-30….he may only hit .250 but he’ll get his walks and OPS over .800.

Trade Jake for a power relief arm.

Last game of the season! Feels a bit weird, knowing no post season…

Now that there’s no pressure, they’re out there hitting bombs.

If the season ended right now we’d end up in a tie with both Cleveland and Detroit.

Makes the collapse and lack of effort from some players even more maddening!

ONE more game….think of all the games we scored zero….or the games LMJ did not even give us a chance in his starts….and on and on….its why when after early season losses, people say “it’s early “ or something similar.

Game 14 is just as important as 162.

And all the games that Espada seemed to treat as throwaways….

None of that changes the fact that they don’t have the horsepower to win in the playoffs, but this season shouldn’t be ending today.

It’s disappointing to play a 162 game schedule and miss the playoffs by one win. This is proof that every game counts.

Yep,
Those games where we could have swept the series and Espada throws his worst lineup out there.

Great point……he would play basically every bench player after winning the first two games….and as you said, we would lose almost every time.

Players today are too pampered….im not saying everyone needs to be Cal Ripken or Lou Gehrig….but these guys don’t need 10 extra days off during the season….

Even if you accept that some of them do need extra days off, there are better ways to do that than resting half of them on the same freaking day after winning two games.

The Astros killed their own momentum time after time by sitting a group of regulars and by sitting guys after they had a great game or little hot streak.

Sit guys when they need it, not when your spreadsheet tells you its time.

If there’s anything that might have Espada on thin ice right now, I think it may be this issue.

It was that game where we blew a 3 run lead in the ninth and ended up losing.

I had a feeling that game would haunt us…and it did.

I don’t get coaches…winning game #43 on a sunday counts just as much as winning gane #162 yet they manage 75% of the season as if there is no sense of urgency.

I get you have to rest guys but WIN the games and series that you have a high win % .

If it weren’t for all the injuries that essentially decimated the season, we wouldn’t be having a discussion about Espada.

The team also had aging and/or underachieving veteran players that failed to live up to expectations.

We shouldn’t look to hold Espada with blame and at the same time hold Dana Brown blameless.

There’s plenty of organizational blame to go around.
