The Pearson thing has me more pessimistic about Brown than ever. Sure it was pennies to sign him but just thinking this guy needs a spot on the roster is depressing. The reaction from Cubs fans makes the Miami D’nofrio thing look miniscule.
It might be a reasonable idea math-wise but the pros like Altuve and Correa have to see that and think, WTF! Our GM is buying lottery tickets.
From 1994 thru 2022, Dana Brown’s experience has been devoted to MLB scouting in one capacity or another.
Crane elevated him to GM in 2023 without the benefit of GM experience, where he remains today. He inherited a championship quality team put together by Jeff Luhnow.
I’m not particularly impressed with him as a GM. IMO, Crane overreacted with the firing of Luhnow and quite possibly resulted in the current decline of the franchise.
I’m not sure what could have been done to prevent multiple injuries to the starting and relief pitching staff, but the other issues such as 1st base, OF, questionable trades, aging players, over paying of players in decline, Espada and staff, etc. contributed to the current state of decline.
Again, not impressed with Brown, or for that matter, Jim Crane’s GM decision making abilities.
Click was every bit Lunhow’s level. Something happened way before Arizona that turned Crane against Click. Maybe it was one private conversation (it’s usually one small comment) and things went south.
How do you go through the WS and not even have your GM contract in negotiations? I don’t know anything. I do think Click was damn near genius material and probably could have re-created another 10-year dynasty for the franchise.
He’ll end up with the Rockies. I’m just going on the buzz. But I doubt this Astros co-GM crap happens. Click doesn’t seem like the type to even get into that. I’m actually shocked he even interviewed. This tells me the butt-hurt was probably more Crane’s.
