Houston Astros Baseball & MLB Discussions

Remember that time we traded a struggling Richard Hidalgo to the Mets and he proceeded to hit 21 HRs in 86 games and the Mets coaching staff said they discovered a hitch in his swing? Yeah, he was out of baseball a year later.

Hidalgo got a real money contract and got satisfied and fat….there was never a hitch in his swing that they found.

But that has nothing to do with this….the two guys we just fired were next level bad….it would not surprise me if they “fixed” Sanchez….as in got him back to serviceable.

Contrast him with JD Martinez, who the Astros gave up on too early, thanks to the wisdom of Bo Porter.

Didn’t we choose to protect Richard Hidalgo over Bobby Abreu in the 1997 expansion draft?

Yep.

He would have looked pretty nice surrounded by Biggio, Bagwell, Berkman and Alou (and later, Jef Kent).

I get that. I just thought I impressed the sh*t out of everyone for pulling that memory bank nugget out of thin air.

Wow, the third most games in MLB history. He was quite a character. I remember running into him at the bar of the old Shamrock Hotel after a game.

McCullers apparently touched 95 today and didn’t give up a hit or walk, and Arrighetti struck out 2 in his inning.

Good news if they can follow it up in a few days.

Great news all around. And there’s no doubt Yordan is a special hitter. But something stands out about that interview. He said, “there’s no pain” referring to the ankle. Hell, I hope not. My son broken his ankle stepping off a curb when he was a cart pusher at Fiesta. He recovered in a little under 3 months and was running around without thinking about his ankle. I know it’s an innocuous comment. But he needs to be talking about blasting RBI’s. Maybe that was an answer to a direct question. Just weird we’re still talking about a sprain from running…and not that fast.

He answered their question about it.

If he can play in 100 games it will be a positive.

Spoke to soon about Arrighetti - gave up 4 runs in his second inning. He did strike out 4 in two innings, so there’s that, I guess.

Trammell has been hitting well.

And Walker Janek is tied for the team lead in … steals.

With Cole, who still doesn’t have a hit but has hit some hard.

Astros will lead the league in strikeouts, and I’m afraid it won’t be our pitchers doing it.

Burrows looked really good today….You know Hunter is dominant, If Javier, Imai, and Burrows keep progressing that is a salty 1-4.

Matthews had a nice game as well……looking like he is ready for an everyday role.
