Houston Astros Baseball & MLB Discussions

When you’re this close it’s okay to toss in the marbles. The only reason I could tolerate Bauer is he and Cole hate each other. Was he convicted? I ask because I’m not sure. He’s weird but maybe that’s his issue.

I just read his wiki.

I don’t think he was and yes, Snell is totally worth it. But also, it looks like Urquidy might be hurt. This may be Bregman’s last season as an Astro. Go all in.

Agree. He’s a turd’s turd. If the Dodgers won’t sign him….well….

After that basketball game last night, I’m hoping for a “Snell to the Astros” news alert today.

Snell to the Giants on a 2 year deal. Oh well.

No way Crane was gonna dig deep to pay the luxury tax for that dude. That $31MM/yr would cost nearly $50MM with the tax.

If Lorenzen or Clevinger have a reasonable price tag, I’d consider one of them.

I had forgotten that we have another Stubbs catching in the organization. Hopefully, this works out like the Preston/Kyle Tucker trade-off, though Garrett is definitely a better defensive player than Preston was. :grinning:

On a two year deal 50 million is nothing if it lands you another championship. Also we didn’t shy away because of 50 million. There was obviously a price we’d have been willing to pay for him. Maybe 25 million a year which would’ve still been close to 80 million over two years after the tax. So really we balked at 20-25 million. It may end up being a smart move but still a tad disappointing.

The Astros decision-makers obviously didn’t think bleeding out money for Snell would have resulted in a championship.

The tax problem was really about this year, assuming they’d do a contract with opt-outs. Right now, we have about $20MM in available space before the 45% tax hits. I suspect the budget is sub-$20MM, and Snell was after over $30MM.

We could definitely win a title with Snell. Question is can we win without adding an arm or adding a cheaper one. Fingers crossed we’re still looking at the market.

*Could win. We also could win a championship without him, or if we’d signed him, he could have continued to show signs of decline.

Crane’s not gonna break the bank and hamstring himself for a late-season signing by crushing the budget for that guy.

I think they have to still be looking into signing someone to get us through the early part of the season. I hope the plan isn’t to just throw all of the young guys out there and see what happens, but I could see them doing that.

I’ll be honest I’d have rather signed Snell than Hader. Think we could bandaged the BP on a shoestring budget easier than the rotation. Is what it is. Hopefully they are able to add another arm.

I completely agree. At least he is not with the Yankees or rangers.

So happy the Astros didn’t bite on that one year opt out deal with Snell. Paying $40+million (with tax penalties) and giving up a 3rd and 5th round pick (we are already giving up a third high pick bc of Hader) for one season of Blake Snell is asinine.

Thank you so much.

Pro baseball players, particularly the Astros, and their “discomfort” injuries.

I’m sure Vida Blue, et al, never had “discomfort”.

Yordan will never live up to his statistical greatness if he continues to go IL for blisters. He should be challenging for 60+ HRs now and going forward for the next 7-10 seasons. That means getting 50+ and popping 60 a couple of times. I mean are we conceding thst Alvarez isn’t and never will be on the same level as or better than Judge?

I was just on Twitter yesterday talking to someone about a two year deal for Lorenzen or Clevinger….

I guess great minds think alike.

Apparently Brown says we’re no longer actively pursuing SP. of course the last two times he’s said we weren’t actively pursuing something we ended up with JV and Hader like a day later lol

Well good luck with that….Blanco is not an SP….this guy is a two-pitch pitcher, he’s a relief pitcher!

Please don’t let Bielak anywhere near the mound.
