They talk about the Texans because any lazy idiot can watch their game on Sunday and talk about it…and the Texans spend LOTS of money on advertising, promos and whatever else…Listen to the national shows and how hugely better they are than local radio…I mean, we used to have smart people on local radio who knew a lot about stuff, but not anymore…Most of us on this board know TEN times more about college football and basketball than any of the local radio people on now…LOCAL stations, not necessarily local people …thats a big part of the problem…bottom line? They are lazy and they are idiots…WHY listen at all, other than driving to and from work?
I actually stopped listening to 610 largely because there was so little coverage of UH sports, and even college sports more generally.
I couldn’t agree more! Most of these guys think they know more than us and if they’re questioned, they become condescending. Sports talk in this city is below average. I do like Payne and Pendergast though.
Landry Locker will be focusing on his “The Locker Room” YouTube channel emphasizing the NFL’s Houston Texans.
Probably had to hold his tongue since he works for the Texans radio station
I thought we euthanized this topic.
Same here, haven’t listened to a talk show in years. As a Coog fan…just a waste of time
Someone in all seriousness, undergrad or alumni should start a show on pacifica commercial free radio, I’d 1000% tune in. They have 5 minute spots on their for Texas birds, also the prison show is another unique one.
I agree w not listening to local Sports talk. Haven’t listened to any in years. But why call them idiots ?
Sean Salisbury show is really good.
Salisbury is the rare exception…and i worry about how longer he is on…Sean was a great college QB at USC and he actually keeps up with stuff as far as college football is concerned. He talks to coaches around the state every week about their games, including Houston…but he is the exception, not the rule…his station, AM 790, is also the exception…talking a lot more about college than other stations…
I e talked to Sean and they are working on a deal to get his show broadcast on TV.
I think that could be a way to keep him here longer and his show would be conducive to that format.
Most callers don’t have a clue what they are talking about but Sean and LaLima are always respectful to them.
I stopped listening to KILT 610 when they quit playing rock and roll. I listened to it on an AM transistor radio powered by a 9 volt battery.
The last great thing KILT 610 AM did was sponsor the Beatles at the Sam Houston Coliseum on August 19, 1965. Houston will never be the same…
Step up from potato power?

WHY listen at all, other than driving to and from work?
I agree they are pretty bad. Their jobs should be to watch the games, do the research and know the leagues. Some have admitted on air they don’t do this. They spend more time trying to refute GM decisions or “educate” the listeners on why the Texans should or shouldn’t have paid said player.
I listen to a little local sports because I like discussions about our local teams, not interested too much in national shows. There are a few I can listen to and a few I avoid. Usually I end up changing when they create dumb takes or fixated on a topic they feel should be the only conversation.
They don’t even take phone calls - just texts - they don’t want you to even dialogue with them anymore for fear of being called out
They don’t cover nothing around here
You have the 790 guy Gordy only go to sec media day to be near his alma mater but when do they actually talk and cover college sports for more than a random segment?
It’s horrible in this city but not hard to see why when you have program directors who don’t know the scene and scared to make moves
Ralph Cooper is the only one who covers all
It’s all about ratings, ratings, and more ratings.
That’s why, as I said, I’ve largely stopped listening to local sports talk radio during my long commutes.
There’s hardly any discussion of college sports, much less UH sports.

Their jobs should be to watch the games,
Their jobs are to sell ads for their sponsors.
