We can’t keep fielding a team that can’t even attract the parents.
Huge game? Lol, all I want to know is he fired yet??
He definitely won’t be fired before the end of the season. I’m glad that we weren’t shut out and hope we can win another game or two but it looks pretty doubtful except UCF or BYU at home. I’m not sure why we’re down to just six players. What if another gets injured?
Gonna have to have some open tryouts
And the beat goes on. I feel for these women. Only 5 played, 40 minutes each. They deserve better. Thank you Ladies for giving it your all.
Some are good recruiters
Some are good coaches
Some are both
Some are neither
I don’t know who we have
I am thinking it is #4
Our new AD has to do something at the end of this season. Period. Start looking at candidates now.
Am i understanding this right that we only had 5 players suit up to play?
That’s incredibly disappointing and embarrassing for a proud university. Someone with an ounce of wherewithal needs to step in and say this is unacceptable.
Embarrassing indeed. A major D1 basketball program only playing 5 players? This is like an intramural team that can barely scrape up enough players for a game. This is completely unacceptable. There has to be major changes in w basketball after this season or this new AD is not doing his job.
The game preview on UHCoogs said this:
- Avalon Miller (Achilles), Maliyah Johnson (ACL) and Kateri Poole (ACL) are out for the season.
- Guard Leilani Augmon suffered a broken nose against Baylor (Jan. 17). The guard had surgery on Jan. 27 and is expected for return mid-to-late February.
- Guard Ashley Chevalier is out indefinitely due to personal reasons leaving Houston with seven available players.
Another entry said we had SIX players available. Either way it was a helluva short bench. Not defending our coach here, just pointing out what I saw. I’m not sure why he didn’t give any of the starters a rest… saving someone’s redshirt? I don’t remember a game with no subs.
It’s also telling that they haven’t put a Media Guide out for the team in several years (or bothered to post it if the indeed have any). I put some time in as PA announcer or official scorer when the program launched in the mid-70s. I hate that it is so neglected now.
Can’t we have up to 15 players with two being walk-ons? Four are injured and one left the team. That leaves more that should be available.
We shouldn’t be redshirting anyone at this point. What if another lady goes down?
This loss at UCF was to the only winless team in conference. At least it was on the road. Boy, wait until we get 'em at home!
The website lists 12 athletes last I looked. Maybe an open tryout is in order. I know Baylor was in a similar situation last season and found a couple of players, one of which just received a scholarship.
As noted, I’m in no way defending the coach. I think it’s long past time for a change.
TCU, not Baylor. They’re now ranked 7th in the country after a massive roster overhaul during the offseason (NIL money galore).
And in reference to the post before that, NCAA D1 women’s basketball has 15 scholarships (compared to 13 for the men). Although most top teams don’t use 15 players just because if a team is healthy, you’ll never get to play. So it’s not that uncommon to see 12 or 13 player rosters among top 25 teams.
Knowing UH’s injury history, I’d recommend to the next UH women’s basketball coach to begin the season with 15 scholarship players.
If they hadn’t done an open tryout back in November and December, it seems a little late now.
Getting smashed by Baylor
Lost by 35 at home. Played six but Summer didn’t play much.
Someone please make it stop…

Need to wait abt 4 more weeks. Then it will happen.
