We have been doing it for 50 years.
Baylor does not sell alcohol at McLane Stadium.
We were once one of the few, I believe.
Trendsetters we are. Dome foam for the win!
I remember being shocked at the UH at Utexas game that I couldn’t get a beer.
we played Oregon at NRG when I was still in school and they weren’t serving beer at the game for some reason.
made for a loooong game considering all the pregame / tailgating we did…
The Oregon game was while Katrina evacuees were streaming into the Dome.
I also remember the first time i went to the NCAA tourney at NRG…no alcohol there either. Luckily, we had a suite for final four, lots of drinks!
I remember one Astrodome game vs Baylor…they didn’t sell booze ‘out of respect’ for Baylor. Holy moly did that backfire. Errybody smuggled hard liquor in…drunkest I’ve ever seen a crowd. Next home game vs Bu they sold beer again.
Alcohol, premarital sex, and dancing is not allowed in the Baptist religion…whoops
If Baylor sold alcohol at McLane Stadium, would Baylor fans:
- Drink alcohol, regardless of being a Baptist Uniiversity
- Abstain from purchasing alcohol, out of respect for the Baptist University
- Sneak in a flask of hard liquor and claim you do not drink
I remember when we opened up UNT’s new stadium, the home crowd was pretty rowdy until their buzz wore out. They didn’t sell alcohol so they couldn’t sustain it.
Sometime at UH home games, the beer is the only thing getting me to the alma mater.
Enlighten me with the religions they are allowed lol
There was a point in time when Michigan Stadium did not have stadium lights until 2010.
They probably did not want to serve alcohol out of the safety for their fans during dark, cloudy, and rainy games in November lol.
I can’t speak for all parts of the Abrahamic Religion tree but i know on the Cristian Branch- Baptists/Ana Baptists. Mormons, and the Church of Christian Sciene STRONGLY frown upon it or don’t allow it at all.
Im Catholic, so obviously Prohibition was aimed at the Catholics by the more alcohol free Protestants…
Catholics do not forbid alcoholic and they, by far, are the largest part of Christian
Hence many public institution in Texas remained “Dry” as long as they could since Texas is a heavy Baptist state
Instead of picking on one denomination can’t you just say “Christians”?
Regardless this is probably a subject for the political board lol
I’ve never in my life seen my dad drink a beer; but I can’t remember a time in my childhood when we went to the Astrodome and he didn’t talk the whole time about getting a dome foam.
I remember when only a small handful of college teams (including UH) sold alcohol at their games. We needed it during the Helton/Dimel years.
Absolutely NOT… the Christian denominations vary GREATLY in their beliefs, culture, interpretations, traditions, history and what they allow and won’t allow.
Many use different versions of the Bible even
Nah.
Catholic and Orthodox Christians make up a combined 2/3 of Christianity worldwide.
Both of those groups are cool with drinking.
Not going to argue that. A lot of Christians from all denominations drink. To single out any one denomination is stupid.
I have no problem with folks drinking at games…until they get drunk and stupid.
