I believe in Coach Fritz. I believe this program can be turned around. We have been in good spots before. Coaches, admin had led us astray. But we have the ability to get back and go further than ever before.
Like @Kmoney said in his first season, Sampson lost to Harvard by 21! We also lost to Arkansas Pine-Bluff, South Carolina State, and a blowout loss of 21 to SMU. And we had an 8 loss streak and a 6 loss streak in conference play.
This football team isn’t the greatest. This first season will be tough. But we can set the foundation now. We have a coach who has been a proven winner at multiple levels. What was Tulane football before Fritz? We have an AD and University President who want to make a change. It’ why we fired Dana. They know the potential we have.
People calling it a bad hire drank too much. Players bailed in the portal, a whole new team. We need a QB. If they have to go find an FCS stud so be it. If we want to play in the B12 there’s gonna have to be some NIL money. Fritz had a bad first game. UNLV was good last year, we weren’t. This season is going to be tough, there’s going to be an unbearable amount of bitching. Dana let the ship sail on recruiting. The Bayou Bucket is gonna be our bowl game. I’ll hold judgement on Fritz after seeing how the season unfolds and if we show improvement. We need a QB, Smith aint it.
This is why, in an earlier post this week, I didn’t predict a winner. I knew with the differences between Holgorsen and Fritz, we were in for a rebuilding year.
I was more upset with one of Holgorsen’s wins (Rice in 2022) than I was this loss.
Best coog defense we’ve seen in a long time. Organized football, offensively we struggled but with the amount of change, this was expected. Loved that Fritz rotated the QBs.I think this will give Smith the motivation he needs to take his game up another level. UNLV was a really bad game to start the season, seriously tired of our horrible scheduling. We’re in the big 12, playing good teams in non conference doesn’t making any freaking sense. Once we start winning a bunch of game, then schedule the big nonconference match ups.
Smith wasn’t the answer last year and proved he still isn’t. Smith and Ale both threw TD passes, only Ale threw one to our team. I’ve been impressed with Ale since he got here, Smith-not so much. Smith is too indecisive and and slow to read the defense.
Yeah I think we need to relax a bit. It’s game 1. UNLV isn’t a bad team. The big problem is that damn O line and of course the QB position. We got ways to go no doubt. But we have to have some type of patience. I get it, there are no rewards for having a bad season (like in the pro’s where you get a high draft pick). But damnit we got to get behind this team and CWF still. If changes need to be made to the coaching staff (I am looking at the OC and O line coach), then so be it! Next week vs Boomer, I know it will be daunting but we have to go in a with a positive mindset. I will always cheer on my Coogs. I don’t flip flop to other teams.
I really hope as a fan base that we support this great university after this really poor showing. I believe in cwf and I hope the fans do as well by showing up. I’m driving up to Norman next weekend, let’s go coogs
I’m not sure what to think. He had two great years at Tulane but he went 31 wins and 43 losses in the six years prior. Zero chance he gets that kind of time here.
An 0-11 or 1-10 season is just digging a really deep hole. He’d have to make huge strides the following season or two. Seems like a tall order after today.
