So then you agree with what I said that it ultimately falls on the head coach……even though it directly reflects on the position coach.
Did you play for UH? Or your dad? Or your brothers?
Just curious……I won’t ask for names or anything, that’s your business….just wondering if you played here.
Myself and my son were both d1 athletes as well but neither of us played for UH.
The penalties that plague us and bama are probably not the coaches fault. They
coach as they always do, but for whatever reason , this group of players has a problem.
bama can overcome most penalties on shear talent. We can’t. You can fault the coaches
for not trying different methods.
Yes I do agree. Im not trying to start a war here. As one poster kindly pointed out I try to be very positive in my outlook about UH. But obviously there is plenty of criticism to go around. All I was trying to with this thread is point out that there are great programs with great coaches that get penalized too, so maybe we focus our criticism elsewhere. I probably laid the sarcasm on too thick and was a little overly rude in the opening post and I apologize for that. My brother played at UH during the Kolb, Joseph, and Keenum days. I have many fond memories as a kid running up and down those crazy steep ramps at the rob. Made many away game travels too. Tuscaloosa, Oregon, Miami, the infamous cart game at Marshall. Not to mention the painful bowl games TCU, SC, and Airforce.
This is why I would say Alabama has a bigger problem with penalties this year. They have looked extremely undisciplined against both UTs when talent was similar. That is interesting seeing Syracuse be so bad in penalties with an undefeated team.
The key for me has always been cutting out the “dumb” penalties and working on improving on the penalties when you are just beat talent wise. A pass interference down the field when you are beat might save you yards or 7 points. A hold on the line when the QB could take a blindside hit could save you from a turnover. Those can be good ones to take. The delay of game, false start, too many men, personal foul penalties would be the dumb ones that are bad regardless. We have seen a lot on the O-line as well when they are getting beat, that wont change overnight but should get better if the coaches are good. The most concerning for me were the ticky tack ones called like a slight touch being called when it was just not needed. The UTSA punt return penalty (shouldn’t have been called) didn’t help Dell return it. Don’t believe the other return called back helped him either. Can’t make those penalties that take big plays off the board and weren’t even a reason for the big play happening.
I get what you were saying….I was looking at it from a coaching background and all the times I got my a:$ torn up by head coach over just about everything….one guy in particular….anyway, I get you….I was taking it a bit to literal.
Yeah, that had to be fun growing up around the team like that….
