He might be the best coach to replace Holgorsen. His New Mexico State team just whipped Auburn in Auburn, 31-10, the same NMSU that won 2 games before he took over last year. He won 7 his first year and just finished this regular season 9-3. After his first year at Minnesota, he went to three consecutive bowls and had a winning record when he had to quit because of a seizure. He was an assistant and then interim coach at TCU for a couple of years so he isn’t unfamiliar with Texas.
coaches not coming to UH for $1,000 Alex
He has done something I did not think would ever be possible……bring life into the Las Cruces Aggies!!!
They’re a basketball school.
NM is a basketball state.
My grandpa went to the Ranchvale school outside of Clovis. They didn’t have enough students for football, but could swing enough for a basketball team. I think that was pretty common across the state.
You shut your filthy mouth!
For the past 60 years NM State has been our Nation’s worst Division 1 program.
The primary reason is obvious. The State itself has not much High School talent. You might find more talent at North Shore than exists in the entire State of New Mexico.
Las Cruces is ok but not much beyond ok. Exciting it is not.
The fact that Kill could develop a good football program there is mind-boggling.
In short some program will give this guy a look. Imagine what he might do with a large talent pool available. You know, like the one in Houston.
His health has to be a BIG issue. Who knows what will happen to him?
No to guys over 60. They won’t have enough time for the rebuild.
IIRC, he had a seizure. Not sure if he’s actually been diagnosed with Epilepsy since that means two unprovoked seizures or one unprovoked seizure with a high risk of more.
Speaking as someone who has Epilepsy.
Yeah, I’m not saying we absolutely have to hire him, but at the least I would interview him. The guy’s won everywhere he’s been, and he hasn’t been coaching at blueblood programs. The fact that New Mexico State beat Auburn in Auburn is really pretty astounding.
That one he had on the sidelines at Minnesota (?) almost killed him.
RichRod!
There are better candidates for UH.
GenOneCoog spent his freshman year at Nm state (then (A&M) and played basketball, his guard unit got called up for Korea, then came to UH when he was discharged.
There is a sea of candidates but sites like this tend to make that sea into a fishing pond with a select few favorites.
I’m thinking that Jerry Kill would be a very good choice for our next head coach.
Jerry Kill is a good coach, but I basically see him as Willie Fritz + health issues. If he can stay healthy I think he has a big chance to be the Football Kelvin Sampson we’re looking for, but that’s a pretty big if.
Yes, he is diagnosed.
Kill has had more success early on than Fritz and NMSU is historically worse than Tulane
Good for him. I hope he enjoys his success there. Less pressure. Better environment for an old school coach. I hope he makes the playoffs one day.
