After he said he HAD A BIG 12 ROSTER before the season.
DS is cool customer doesn’t get rattled easily he has the mindset and the skills to be a good pocket passer he gets the right protection. He’s not a run QB but can use the run strategically with him to surprise the D and keep them off balance. Think he could have a break out year next year with the right coaching.
The goal is McCloud and Sarratt…… stay tuned
Who is Sarrat?
#11 nationally in receiving yards, #16 in receptions. Would love to add him and his QB.
If they come in as a pair, then that QB going to get the job. No way there breaking up that chemistry between the 2
A senior QB isn’t coming here without pretty much having the starting job locked up.
The JMU transfer quarterback started the season as their backup quarterback behind a Redshirt Freshman. If I was Donovan Smith and this guy came in this Spring to Houston then I wouldn’t exactly be shaking in my boots
His situation was a little different coming into 2023.
What does this mean?
He hadn’t started a game since September of 2021 and was awful in it before transferring to JMU a year later. He didn’t play in 2022.
He didn’t have much leverage for anywhere he was transferring for the 2023 season. Now he does. I just don’t think we are bringing him to compete with smith. We’d be bringing him here to be our QB.
I don’t see it. Obviously things didn’t work out for him at Arizona but then he transfers to JMU and loses the quarterback battle to a Freshman. To his credit, when JMU benched the starting quarterback in week 1 he came in and never looked back and put up a big season in the Sunbelt. I think it’d be great for him to come in I just think it’s crazy talk to think we’d promise this guy the position over Donovan. Put Donovan Smith on that same JMU team in the Sunbelt this year and I guarantee you he would have lit it up.
I don’t see what you see in smith.
This isn’t about Smith this is about McCloud and whether or not he would be hypothetically coming in here to compete for the job or if he would simply be given the job.
When smith is the guy he would be competing with, it’s clearly about him too.
That said, I didn’t bring up smith.
I don’t either….with better quarterback play the team might have a couple of extra wins……of course then Dana would still be here.
Smith ain’t beating that guy out on either team. And no one is ever given anything in the finality of it. You have to perform somewhere. But McCloud’s handling of the receivers, his general passing ability, and his vision of the entire field appear more advanced than Smith’s. And I’m not a Smith-hater. Just an observer.
No, he would be lit up without a good o-line to protect him! Smith runs like a QB in slow motion, how is he going to light anybody up? His arm is average, at best!
Smith has a strong arm, he is just too slow and doesn’t have the mobility
