Kelvin Sampson Best Team Ever?

This is merely a message board wherein Cougar fans post their, opines.

If many think any given team is the best, then they do. So what?

Obviously the 2024-25 squad was Sampson’s best at UH. They made the National Title game. End of story. They are the best Sampson team.

In 1967 we saw the best-ever Guy Lewis team up to that time. They were the first UH team to make The Final Four. Then UH fans began to speculate that the 1968 team would be even better, due to improved talent. And the 1968 team was our best-ever, going 32-0 and finishing #1 Nationally. Then they lost in The Final Four.

Just like 1967-1968 we see improved talent hitting our roster. No singular talent like Big E or Hakeem or Drexler, but lots of talent. Perhaps a squad that goes 10 deep.

Personally I am very excited for next season. It seems very possible we can again make The Final Four.

Neither Drexler nor Akeem were considered subgular taients when they came to UH

Preach.

Rob would see CBS on the court banner and it was Hell bent for leather from that point on

This cat pulls “subgular” from the Thesaurus and you people still consider him a mere mortal. SMH

Now i have to leave that instead of editing “singular” in

i agree that our coaching, style of play and otherworldly depth is gonna give us an insanely high floor but going 17-0 against the at-large caliber teams we’ll be playing next year is a big ask even for us

Based on what Coach has done with less talent. Now that he has the best roster in NCAA. Can play any style ball on offense and defense is the foundation. Coach has never had a Chris Cenac a day in his life. Pairing Cenac and Tugler will give teams nightmares. Coach literally has no weakness on the roster, some could argue youth. But it’s a nice blend of youth and experience. Back up C Sahko is a quicker and more agile Javier Francis. Can you imagine him developing post moves throughout the season? Literally the Coogs second unit are starting caliber players. Not only that but legit NBA prospects too.We all know everyone will come back better than before. I’m excited to see Mercy and McCarty growth. Kingston Fleming reminds me of Derrick Rose. He could be the back up.

Whoa Cowboy! I can just imagine how many times over the past 20-30 years that the fans of Duke or North Carolina or Kentucky or Kansas or UConn have said similar kinds of things about their team’s exceptional talent.

As for me, I’m going to sit back and enjoy the ride… (I’ve been to New Orleans in '82 and Albuquerque in '83 and Indianapolis in '21 and San Antonio in '24)… and I’m just hoping that we have reason to return to Indianapolis next season.

They all won National championships when they roster looked like the Coogs. Plus I think Coach Sampson gets more out of his roster then most. Do you realize the whole starting 5 can get drafted? That’s without counting Milos. Not to forget the back ups has draftee potential.

I concur with that.

The only way next year’s Sampson team eclipses this one is if it wins it all, no matter how talented it may be on paper.

That said….STAY TUNED!!!

The last game the Coogs won was against a Duke team with a roster that looked very similar to this UH one, talent-wise.

i guess the biggest thing is that there’ll be so many more moving pieces next year compared to 24-25 where all we had to do was get uzan to be comfortable in our system

though if we are lucky enough to have him withdraw from the draft the early season struggles shouldn’t be as bad as they were last year or in 2022 lol

If Coach had Cooper Flagg he winning it all. Just to put that simply. Hall of Fame coach makes a difference. You kinda enhanced my point. Coach beat an All NBA lottery team with no lotteries. Now he could have 3 to 4 next year.

We have no idea how Sampson would do coaching Flagg. The same thing to people who say he’d win with the PSJ teams. It doesn’t work that way.

Yes and if I may add CKS DNA is what is going to make this group even better. You can have great potential but a leader and first and foremost a great teacher is what makes pieces gel together. I can’t wait to see how this group develops.

Ok so u think we have best team ever coming in and what will u say about coach if he doesn’t win it all with the best team ever? Ur putting a lot on his shoulders, youth, injuries and LUCK will all play a factor, again I’m praying we win it all it’s way past time for Houston

I started this post before the season even started.

Next year’s team will be the “most talented”. I thought Houston should have been back to back National Champs.

You said we would easily beat a 36 win over/under.

Hope you didn’t lay money

If it wasn’t for the lack of continuity they would reached that total. One game short. Well I’m even bolder about next year’s team. I don’t see them losing. I know it’s a tough conference and team will have to adapt. But coach will have potentially 5 draft picks starting with picks off the bench. I’m not sure if he ever had a team this talented top to bottom at none of his schools.

Even if this coming team is CKS’s best team - predicting undefeated is nuts.
