Larry Scott Out as PAC 12 Commissioner

I can read tea leaves.

Not sure about that. There have been many times UT has tried to play in Houston and they were met with disappointing attendance.

The one that comes to mind that was a colossal embarrassment was the UT- UCLA basketball game in Reliant .

I’d say we have Coog fans here but of the non UH fans, I’d say the order is 1) Texas A&M 2) LSU 3) UT Austin

LSU too. i read somewhere that outside of Baton Rouge Houston has the largest LSU alumni base in the country.

You can walk into any retailer that sells college-branded products in Houston (Academy, H‑E‑B etc.) and see how many items they keep in-stock for each school. You will find a lot of UH stuff, but it’s not a plurality let alone a majority.

That is true Roy. I don’t know how many Louisiana transplants there are in the Houston area (there are a whole lot); but the overwhelming majority of them pull for LSU. After UH, I pull for LSU as well.

BTW, most of the LSU fans never went to LSU either, but they are a loyal bunch. I never understood the animus toward “T-shirt” fans who pull for schools they didn’t attend. I would love for UH to have a huge following of loyal “T-shirt” fans.

Correct.

I’m the same way I pull for UH first then LSU Bc we need the help more than LSU.

If UH was in a p5 , not the big 12, UH would be on another level above what we were in the old SWC For fan support bc it would be p5 without the negativity and it’s been so long. Viewership for us here would skyrocket.

Actually Rutgers especially was about growth. The big 10 reported it as such, grow new markets and the schools. The big 10 thinks outside the box and feels they can grow programs vs a lot of other p5s.

Will a new commissioner make the Pac 12 alumni bases care about their teams? Only 3-4 programs currently have a good fan support which is the real issue. Oregon, USC (when there good), Az St and Washington.

In that case Jcoop, we should fit right in, we have an extremely apathetic alumni base.

I tell you what
You and I are going to spend $2 ($1 for me and $1 for you) on a lotto ticket. We will share the winnings 50/50 deal?
I am convinced you do a have a special gift.

Fair enough. :joy:

You and I both know that fan support is fickle. Once we lose a second game, the fans check out.

You’re right. But we’re not that unique.

Butts in seats isn’t going to move the needle. Its eyes on screens, and that’s been appreciably better.

I agree, it’s gonna be tv markets that they want vs 80000 fans in the stands which is less likely to happen going forward bc covid fear will be around.

We’re in a good spot for tv markets.

One way to check out true “fans” of UT and ATM would be to count cars on 71 Sunday following home game in Austin and on 6 Saturday night following home game in CS . . . . .

Only issue some might fail to realize is that if UH gets into a major p5 , it will be huge this time around bc we won’t have the negativity of the SWC and we were only in one major conf. ever , so new fans would embrace it along with us. We’d no doubt capture this market when good or decent. We’re getting solid 3 stars now so we’d grab some 4 stars no doubt.
