Let students rush the field

Willie Fritz just said on 790 AM, “It was great to have the student body rush the field.” So can we get the PA announcer, Bob Ford, to quit threatening our fans for rushing the field? I’m sure he’s taking direction from somebody, but he said over the PA that any fans rushing the field were “going to get in trouble.” What the hell is that? Let me rush the field. Who cares? Fans should be allowed to have fun.

The conference fines the school when that happens, right? It’s a player safety thing generally but there were like 3 rows worth of students on the field so maybe nobody noticed

beating louisville in 2016 and rushing the field, is one of my greatest and fondest memories as a student.

It’s not fun unless the announcer tells you not to, and also if someone is hurt jumping out of the stands and the announcer specifically and repeatedly said not to the liability is not on UH.

Also where is CSC? They could have really delivered some punishment with that size of a group of students.

I had students in my class at the game when we beat SMU in 2021. Their dad’s were both UH grads. Students and player parents ran onto the field. I found my students and their siblings and took them on the field so they could see Derek. (He had come to visit my class multiple times)Those kids had more fun running around, high fiving players taking pictures and just having a blast. They still talk about that night. Players love it just as much.

It’s cool until someone hurts a player or a random person gets severely punished injured and Tony buzbee starts calling

Or we get a large fine from the B12 office. As fun and cool as that is, we can’t afford to spend money on that.

I hate the fine. Let the kids have fun.

Getting to rush the field as a kid after the 2006 CUSA title game is part of what made me want to be a Cougar.

In an unexpected upset, the PA warning is probably like the C2P connection. Students have it tuned out with 15 seconds left in the game.

Thank you

Good thing the stadium wasn’t full, or the crowd on the field would have been massive.

Doesn’t the Big 12 fine schools $100K if they do that because of safety issues of both teams?

UH does not have that kind of money to throw away.

There have been some pretty grave injuries from field storming in the past, even if you don’t count the ones inflicted by CSC. There are good reasons to limit it. It also feels less special when you do it every game.

We stormed it when we beat Texas Tech in 2009 and it was glorious.

I understand the conference fine but I say as long as the fans don’t confiscate the goal posts, let the fans have their fun. Not that Rice is a role model, but they let fans form a line when the team comes out of the tunnel and lets fans on the field after the game.

That is a big game experience for the fans, especially the youngsters.

Let’s rush the announcer
