Life Member experience

Are there any Life Members here? Can we all complan about how the Life Member game expierence has gone downhill? We can at life@uh.edu

We used to get unlimited food and drinks, the outdoor tent had a DJ and cool giveaways, like key chains and bottle openers. Since it moved into the Alumni Center, it’s sucked. We have to pay extra to even get in there (what did I pay $1,000 for?), we get one drink maybe (and have to pay expensive prices) and the food is blah. There’s no atmosphere in there.

Plus, the giveaway items have gone downhill and they don’t even give out “Beat So and So” team buttons anymore. Now it’s stickers.

I want my $1,000 back.

Yes. I am. I only went to the tailgate a couple times since they moved it to the Athletics/Alumni Center. Generally not interested in walking over there before games when parking in the garage. Not sure if I would be tempted by different entertainment/amenities.

The $1,000 really goes more towards scholarships, it isn’t going to pay for your tailgate experience for life, be realistic.

I didn’t sign up for Life Membership really for perks as much as I did to support and be there. However, if someone asked me if they should get a life membership, I don’t know how I would sell it beyond that.

That is also a major boneheaded move by UH. At the Rob had the student tailgating and the alumni tailgating all adjacent to the stadium. Who idea was it to move thr Alumni tailgate all way over by the alumni center? It not near the stadium. The idea for stadiums is to have the most activity around the stadium and not a block away. They tore up the permanent tailgate cabanas at Robertson then move the Alumni Tailgate a block away. That right there tell you that admin treats tailgating like it a nuisance and hindrance. Then they wonder why the causal fan doenst come and even the alumni. They killed the atmosphere that UH Football had.

Haven’t done one Life member event since they started charging, there’s really no benefit to being a life member.

Exactly

My wife and I went once last year (we are in our 30s) and it was just a room with tables and people sitting eating. Seemed fine. Haven’t been back since.

I used to enjoy the cougar pride tailgate, but I got priced out.

And there it is. Everything about UH Football is a money grab. The gouge and scrap for money out of everything. Pricing parking at $50. Soda is $10 and beer close to $20. Then they charge lifetime Alumni members to get into a tailgate who have already gave over alot of money to be a lifetime member. Someone already said UH has some of the highest concession prices seen takes away average fan going. They are even sticking it to lifetime members charging them for tailgating no value for being lifetime member and no value for casual fan. No wonder the stadium empty

Yep, a microcosm of all UH’s problems

100% of the Life membership fee goes into the alumni scholarship endowment. What you bought is a lifetime of invitations to alumni events, not a lifetime of free tailgating / open bars. It was nice while it was free but unsustainable.

With the addition of the indoor practice facility and MH facility, not much space around the stadium for tailgates and personally I would rather have the tailgate alley area be an experience for students vs alumni. I’m sure older Coogs and those with little kids appreciate the AC in the alumni center.

UH just might be better getting rid of the in house running of gameday and hiring an outside company has experience.

There is enough room for both along Cullen

Did anyone think the $20 million + for athlete pay was just coming out of thin air? From “poor unpaid students” to millions. Something has to give as they still expect new and upgraded facilities and other perks.

I was told when I bought my Life Alumni membership that I would be free food and drinks for life at football games. That’s why I bought it. Bait and switch

Plus, the only thing I get invited to is five or six football tailgates and one basketball tailgate. And I have to pay.

Maybe, but i did not enjoy tromping in the mud and subsequent steam bath on game days that had rain beforehand.

They closed off culen so no reason cant split half of it for students and half for the alumni tailgate along Cullen in front of the stadium

I’d go as far to say that UH has done more to push casual fans and alumni away than to bring them in. $50 parking doesn’t inspire anyone to want to come back,

You do realize that people willingly donate money to the athletic department and don’t expect anything in return? Excuses

I also haven’t been since they moved. I understand charging a nominal fee given the number of no shows when it was “free,” but they went way too far. I also don’t want to walk to the AAC.
