Yes, clown, I do. Excuses? F off: I’ve donated in all sorts of ways for years and years. Way more than you I’m sure. My point is when I signed up for Life Alumni I was promised some lifetime benefits that I no longer get. If I knew I would have the rug pulled out from under me, i would have donated in different ways.
Let’s just all agree our fanbase sucks. We’ll prob get left behind in football/baseball and be a basketball invite only for the next major realignment.
Unfortunately this is a reality. Unless our alums decide to be loyal and support
Yeah i bought one for my wife and I. Thinking we received some sort of perk. There’s no advantage whatsoever. I couldnt try and sell anyone spending 2k for a membership to nothing.
I’m a recent life member as well. Can you
point me to the data that shows how much of the membership goes to scholarships ? From what I’ve been able to find, I’m not exactly happy with the percent that goes to scholarships, which I think should be the priority.
When I’ve inquired for details, it mostly went to the nebulous category of “programs” - not scholarships.
I can’t but I’ve never looked into it.
It’s been close to twenty years since I joined, and I have not looked at the alumni website in a few years so it’s possible there have been changes since the university took over the association. For a long time it was lifetime membership fees went to the endowment and the fees from individuals choosing annual membership went to programs; this was transparent in the marketing.
We stopped going to the football tailgate because it’s a long walk from the garage and back to the stadium. We’ve done a couple during basketball season. It has gotten too expensive to go to the event.
I am a Lifetime Alumni member too. I agree 100% with what you and some of the other Lifetime members have said. As was mentioned - we were promised one thing upon joining and then it was taken away. That is not how you treat people.
When I purchased the lifetime alumni membership the biggest perk was the benefit of the tailgate experience. It was listed on the website and was a major factor in my decision to purchase the membership. A lifetime alumni member would get in free to the tailgate and could bring a guest as well. At the tailgate you received food and two drink tickets.
Once I joined the rules changed. Now the lifetime member is charged $15 to get in and if they bring a quest it is $25 per person. Also, it is a cash bar no drink included.
I can understand charging members to bring a quest, but to charge Lifetime Alumni Members when they have already paid $1,000- where is the value in becoming a member?
I also went over to the Alumni center for a few of the tailgates, but the environment was not nearly as much fun as being right next to the stadium.
Honestly, that pricing structure tells me that they don’t even want members to show up. Even ignoring the bait and switch angle, if the intent was to get members in the door, they would at least make it marginally attractive.
That’s a bunch of garbage.
Coach Joe Curl’s tailgates at Robertson were the best!
RIP CJC
The university failed by moving the tailgate inside the Alumni Center. There is enough room around the stadium and down Cullen to have the tailgate outside and closer to the stadium. Not sure whose idea was to move it in the Alumni Center, at least move to the IDF if you want it indoors.
I agree with the other posts that the tailgate was fun when it was next to the stadium, I have not been since it was moved.
Can’t see paying for food and a drink when I can eat and drink in the parking lot.
You actually got free drinks in outdoor tent
I’m thinking it was moved inside to help the alumni feel comfortable and be in air conditioning.
life member tailgate is a microcosm of the whole tailgate experience as a whole. Our tailgate experience sucks, they limit the time and how we tailgate. Our campus is dead on Saturdays during the game and it should be lively from sun up to sun down on Home game days. The university should want the campus vibrant through the day but they hinder the experience.
They should utilize the IPF and have an indoor/outdoor experience. Have tents set up on the outside and use the ipf if need be for anyone that needs to be in some sort of shade/ac
That is true…that is going back a few more years. Then it was changed to 2 drink tickets if I remember correctly.
That just sounds too good to be true. I would have gotten it writting and saved it.
The UHAA also got shredded into bits a few years ago, same time that Cub Camp got cancelled.
Like, so much of it got cut and gutted and from what I heard from some people in the respective mini alumni associations, they were NOT happy. Like you could see their facial expressions change over frustration.
