The preliminary injunction hearing in the Pyburn v. NCAA is tomorrow in Baton Rouge. All eyes in college sports will be paying attention.
I thought it was interesting that the Georgia AG sent SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey a letter supporting the SEC’s position. This portion stood out in the letter:
“If LSU does in fact roster one or more pro athletes or demonstrates concrete plans to do so, we would strongly encourage the SEC to take all measures available to address this conduct, up to and including suspending and/or removing LSU from the Conference.”
What a hypocrite, The Georgia roster is loaded with highly paid professionals. It doesn’t matter if they sign a contract with the NFL or a NIL group. They are still professionals not amatures.
I bet the B12 would take them. However, Kiffin has said that LSU will abide by any SEC decision on whether their recalled pros can play. Basically, they are in a holding pattern like CWF is on Johnson.
I’m talking about B12 taking LSU. But it won’t come to that because LSU will cut ties with the pro retreads if that is the stance of the SEC.

Once you sign a Pro contract, you’re a professional…end of story, there is no coming back. The NCAA has got to grow a spine and shut this malarkey down. Talk about killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
Don’t be surprised to see some state judge(s) ruling that the NCAA has no ability to enforce that rule since the NCAA teams (at least those in the P2) are already paying players just about as much as does the NFL, CFL, et al…legally ruling that college FB players who are paid a large amount are already a professional (ie: a new ‘collegiate’ professional.)
It seems the fear of those kind of rulings is precisely why so many folks want federal legislation…and why the P2 programs are so concerned about keeping & protecting their inherent advantage of overpaying their players compared to all others.

The ncaa has created this, nobody else. Some of you refuse to accept that blue bloods programs and others have paid college athletes for decades. It did not start last season, five years ago or 10 years ago.
The ncaa knew way back then that these players were getting paid under the table. They threw the hammer at us and others while letting the blue bloods operate without any consequences. What we have is the result of that.
Amateur sport is no longer. When are you going to accept that? The sports that make money like football and basketball are paying players through NIL and other means. What do you think that is? Our very own Keasean Henderson who has not played one down is more than likely a millionaire. Like it or not that makes him a pro. That is the same for Weigman. Look at his NIL.
Take basketball, remember the one and done? These players are pro. They have been for decades but the ncaa looks the other way.
The sec or the other leagues have no ground. Like WoodMarkCos this will be challenged and they will lose.
One more time for clarity. All of this has been going for so long that the ncaa had plenty of time to solve this. They did not. You know why? Because they protected some while punishing others. It is not me writing this but facts putting it to light.

Yes Sir, NCAA is a joke. It’s been going on forever, anyone with an IQ above a rock knows that, hell, UH and everyone was doing it as well…doesn’t make it right. I got no problem with paying the players in this day of the NIL era. They’re mistaken if think the Average Joe will ever accept College Athletics as Professional. If they don’t pull their heads outs out of their 4th point of contact, they’ll kill the Golden Goose eventually. Everyone wanting it to be treated as pro ball, you better watch what you wish for…NO fans give the Texans/Rockets ANY financial support except by attending games…and when they suck…no one goes to the games. College sports will never have the same level of Corporate support, not even close to NFL level, it’s simple economics. The SEC sued LSU in U.S. District Court in Alabama on Thursday, alleging the university is violating the league’s First Amendment right of expressive association by ignoring SEC rules that prohibit signing and playing former NFL players.
The lawsuit, which also names the LSU board of supervisors, LSU president Wade Rousse, athletics director Verge Ausberry and football coach Lane Kiffin as defendants, was filed while SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and others testified during a separate injunction hearing in a state court in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
During Sankey’s testimony in the state court hearing, one of the plaintiff’s attorneys brought up the newly filed federal lawsuit. The revelation sent a buzz through the packed courtroom, as few people were aware of the new development until it was mentioned.

Granted he works for the sec but he is the last one that should go after LSU.
The real question here is what is the sec motivation in this?
Does the sec want to limit the amount ncaa players are paid? That makes no sense since sec teams already pay more than nfl franchises do with their practice squad players or are close to rookies first contract so what is it?
I will add that I can’t stand Kiffin. Life is full of irony.
