Lsu is doing a private equity deal/ 100 mil upfront for 10% future

LSU to get 100 mil upfront bc of their deficit on buyouts and athletic debt in exchange of 10% of future media rights money. Private equity now owns part of the athletic debt.

I don’t like like the 10% of future media money. Hope we don’t do this

LSU will likely win a title under lane. This could prove to be a good deal to get him what he needs to win it all.

The B12 offer with Redbird Capital was essentially a loan. In LSU’s deal, private equity investors will earn nearly 10% of the annual stake from LSU’s future media rights tied to football. There’s a buyback clause, too.

I will give LSU credit. It’s creative.

Kiffen will likely leave or be fired before they win a title.

LSU is now mortgaging their future away.

Bad move IMO…

LSU has won three national titles with three different coaches in the last three decades.

They are due for another and with the coach who was arguably better than Coach O and Coach Miles.

My wife is from Louisiana. She’s an LSU Fan.

LSU, therefore, is a team I pull for, unless they’re playing the Coogs.

But Lane Kiffen is a con-man.

He has left everywhere he’s been on bad terms.

LSU got conned…

Nick Saban is the GOAT.

Les Miles inherited a freakin’ loaded roster.

Ed Orgeron is THE PERFECT FIT for LSU. Also a great coach. Just a “nut job” away from football.

Brian Kelly was the ABSOLUTE WRONG FIT, with his fake Cajun accent.

The right coach can win at LSU. Lane is not the right coach. He’s an accident waiting to happen.

I also don’t know that there’s a ton of evidence lane is all that much better than BK?

And let’s be real, Joe Brady and Joe Burrow won them that 2019 title; Coach O had little to do with it. There’s a reason Brady is an NFL Head Coach now and Orgeron is a “special assistant.”

This is what I am curious about - how much is it?

I think lsu didn’t have a choice bc they are in debt bc of the recent buyouts of coaches . 10% of future media rights is high. It’s like high interest .

From reading a LSU article in TigerRag, the PE provides $100M upfront in exchange for an economic interest equal to approximately 10% percent of LSU’s future media-rights revenue, primarily related to football.

LSU would then have an opportunity to buy back that interest after five years. If LSU chose not to do so, the investors would continue participating in the revenue stream and could benefit from a substantially larger Southeastern Conference television contract in the future.

The article reports the minimum investment was $100,000 and that the vehicle was aimed largely at people already operating within LSU’s six-figure donor class.

Yes the thread’s article is misleading. It is basically a loan. LSU is a public entity not a private one.

Lsu is taking the 100 mil to pay off coaching salaries and maybe some of lame kiffen’s deal/ salary along with some athletic debt debt so lsu is just trying to get back in black on debt . I’d rather UH not do I deal like that bc even if lsu does a buy back , regardless, the equity company or whatever it is wants it’s 100 mil plus some gain. I guess lsu had to do it .

For most of the past decade, the SEC has primarily been Alabama, Georgia, and LSU.

But with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma, and Alabama, Georgia, and LSU taking a couple steps back from winning National Championships, the SEC is getting a little more difficult to predict.

LSU has a LOT riding on this upcoming season, and the odds are still against them, IMO. Heck, Ole Miss and Vandy are really good teams, and Tennessee seems poised to bounce back too.

LSU plays Clemson (non-conference), Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Auburn, Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee… among others…

I think they go 8-4, despite the hype.

Adding UT , OU and A&M made it tougher like you said. They added 3 teams capable of winning with resources.

True, but…

None of them have won the SEC, yet.

In fact. Texas is the only one who has even “played for it”, but lost to Georgia in 2024.

I submit his season at Ole Miss last year to the jury…

Lane is better than Brian Kelly.

BK went undefeated at Cincy, and went to the NCG with Notre Dame, and won AP Coach of the Year twice. Meanwhile, Lane has never once coached in a CFP game. Kelly probably wasn’t a good fit for LSU in particular, but it’s not exactly like he was some schlub.

Lane did more with less than BK had last year which is the reason he’s the new coach. Cmon man.
