Maddox hits the transfer portal

Exactly. This Spring, there needs to be an open competition for the #2 spot if were gonna roll with the guys we have. Hopefully either Massoud or Edwards wins the backup job since they’re underclassmen so they can start the process of being ready to take over for The Big 12.

My guess is that it will be Massoud’s job to lose in 2023 since he’s been on the travel team every game and is often seen with a headset on. So he must know the system fairly well at this point.

You may not like how he said it, but his point is valid. That’s all I’m saying.

Well… this is a college football fan message board. I think you have to take personal commentary in the context it’s given. We all tend to run our mouths.

It’s a fools errand to attempt to be hall monitor and police everyone’s statements.

How so? CDH is running off our QB’s? That was his point which is an unsubstantiated statement with zero fact. Personally, I think Kings dad had more to do with him leaving than CDH. Kopp realized he probably was on the wrong team, good for him. How did CDH run him off?

Welcome to the club? I mean, aren’t you policing my statement?

Did Kopp or King tell you that?

Nope, but as long as we can say whatever comes into our minds then my “guess” is as good as everyone else’s. Im just saying nobody other than King, Kopp or Dana knows the story. To immediately put a negative slant on it and suggest CDH is running off players is nonsense and indicates ones state of mind. Negativity.

With as many UH players entering the portal, I wonder if Dana is having some frank conversations about their future at UH. Nothing wrong in telling a player he probably won’t have playing time. Such a player may benefit by transferring.

It’ll be funny if Koop either ends up riding the pine or transferring out of CU.

Exactly, if they are way down on the depth chart then they need to be told. Let them enter the portal if that works better for them. It is a win-win. We get more roster space and they get a possible better fit with play time.

Suggesting they are being “run off” by CDH is an irresponsible assumption, particularly when it is used as a negative connotation on CDH. Just more bashing for no particular reason other than someone doesnt like him.

That was a good self burn. Congrats.

It looks like he has a lot of competition at CU. If we were so weak at QB then why would he leave? It would seem if he were a great fit for us he would have been informed of such. Time will tell.

Funny, I dont feel “burned”.

At the same time, this “punishment” also boosts recruiting. There are private school kids that want to stay private but want the tougher competition to be recruited by bigger schools - Chico Holt transferred from St Johns to Strake for that reason. He has offers from Rice and Kansas as a junior.

Williams has been mediocre at best. No loss there. King has continued to be a walking infirmary. Can’t play a full season. Again, in spite of others complaining, losing King was not a big deal. Too injury prone.

As for Kopp, who knows. But he was only rated at .80 coming out of high school, and not really recruited by other P5 schools. Perhaps his play in practice mirrored his actual recruitment ranking. If so, again, no big loss.

That’s interesting. He won’t get the academics at Jesuit (though he’ll still get a good education at Jesuit) that he would at St. John’s, but if he wants to play “big time” college football, then he’ll need the benefit of 6A high school competition which he can only get at Strake Jesuit or Dallas Jesuit among private schools.

We’ll see how he turns out!

He was rated higher than that.

He’ll be fine. His older brother played football across the street from St John’s after transferring to Lamar HS, later graduating from Harvard University. His sister stayed at St John’s, graduated and is now at Duke.

It is my understanding that CDH wanted King to stay in the pocket to prevent injuries. King did not take very well to that style and decided to transfer so he could continue to make magic happen when he scrambled.

His injuries in last year’s bowl game and then early this year proved to me that CDH had the correct idea and it just did not work for King’s aspirations.

I wish King well and realize that his scrambling wins games and sells tickets. The problem is when an injury makes him pay for that style of play, the QB1 could be out for the season.

Arizona has a web page devoted to Athletics. On that page their Coach says “I feel very good about our QB situation now”.

They have 4 on scholarship including a 3 star guy recruited from California. They also can look at The USC starter who is transferring, Slovis.

There is no evidence that Kopp was offered by Arizona.

Matthew announced that he was transferring on November 14. A mere 6 days later he was at Boulder for a visit. Photos are on his Twitter account.

A logical guess is that Kopp did not want to ride the pine and Colorado presents a chance to quickly start. Indeed, a story on Colorado’s web site says that “ Kopp’s skill set did not match Dana’s Offense”.

It was observed on this site last August that Edwards had come in out of nowhere and appeared to beat out Kopp and Massoud.

The Oklahoma, USC,Texas, Auburn, and A$M Starting QB’s all are transferring.some had lost the job, some got hurt.

Starters are leaving. No wonder a 4th. String QB would do the same.

Maybe he didn’t like UH. There are many reasons kids want to change schools and go to different environments, some maybe not related to football.
