Maddox hits the transfer portal

He was our third highest rated recruit last year. That’s a pretty big indictment on that class if you think it’s no big loss because of his recruiting ranking.

I bet the girls are a lot prettier

I recall an interview long ago where CDH said that (pocket over scramble) was one of the things they had to hammer into Case early on and the rest was history.

Well, Ryan Day has run off another highly rated (4*) QB. Fire him!

How do you know that’s not the case now? Backups get plenty of reps at practice.

He doesn’t

Apples to oranges comparison. Ohio State has a solid #2, #3 and maybe even #4 option.

He’s gone after never showing up on a depth chart. With 25+7 we will add depth and move on and IMO no reason to stress over QB4 transferring. This is like if people were freaking out about Cameron Tyson leaving - but maybe worse since Tyson actual logged minutes.

Losing a well regarded freshman QB recruit after less than a year when you have basically zero depth is not comparable to Cam Tyson leaving. You don’t expect freshmen QBs to be high on the depth chart.

It’s not the end of the world and Kopp may not end up being an impact player. I’m not super worried about it but let’s not go crazy in saying it’s like a JR basketball player buried on the depth chart leaving.

There isn’t much depth. And two of those guys ahead of him are seniors next year. The depth is really low. I’m concerned about it but you can always grab a transfer which I’m guessing is the plan.

I also wouldn’t compare Kopp to the washouts that did nothing quite yet. He did have P5 suitors when he left. The others didn’t.

Exactly! Suggesting CDH ran him off as was previously posted by someone is ridiculous.

We have 2 QB’s for 2023: Massoud and Edwards.

Dana will sign a transfer by The end of May, then recruit a stud High School QB in 2023.

Voila! 4 on the roster. Exactly how many Colorado has and that Arizona has.

Massoud and Edwards can get the backup minutes in 2022.

Tell me about this zero depth. Was Kopp part of the zero depth when he was here - he had to be since he was ahead of no one on the depth chart. In that regard, him leaving leaves zero impact.

If you say a mid-level 3 star that was downgraded as a transfer to a low level 3 star (there is probably a reason for that) is losing a well regarded Freshman, I’ll give you that he WAS a well regarded Freshman but it has been my experience that not every well regarded freshman succeeds. I’ve seen some well regarded 4 stars crash and burn.

He, most likely had a better evaluation of where he stood in the pecking order than you did. If that evaulation was, “I don’t see myself beating one or all of these people out, so maybe I should consider my options if I want to play in the next two years” good for him but not bad for us.

My depth concerns go beyond Kopp. A bit frustrated we ended up here but it happens. Dana definitely isn’t the first UH coach to end up in this position.

I’m confused about what happened with Kopp. He was far down on the depth chart but was in pretty high demand as a transfer. I guess we will see how he does in Boulder.

“was” being the operative word

I don’t expect true freshmen QBs to contribute.

Ok.

Perhaps, but Massoud was buried on the depth chart like Kopp was. He’s young too though so maybe they do think he can be the guy. I hope so.

My guess is we end up with a transfer which is fine. I don’t care how we get players as long as it works.

I think the issue is we haven’t really seen Massoud live so there’s a big question mark to if he is an actual viable no.2 that could be no.1 if needed. Seems precarious.

Massoud is a solid dude, seen him in Friday Prayer sometimes. Wanna see him play, it will get the entire Houston middle eastern market to come out and support him.
