Massive Instability Since Yeoman Retired

That is a really dumb statement…UH did spend some money but came out of the pockets of wealthy alums. Do you really think we could out spend the folks who are still out spending us like Agy, Horn, LSU, Ohio St., etc? Not a chance…

Yep Yeomen is in Football hall of fame and deservedly so. Herman’s winning percentage record at UH will probably never be eclipsed. Even now his career overall record is 0.652. Hate the man, but he has our record book and very respectable career percentage so far.

If Fritz can get it going with his career winning percentage , he could be in the Sumlin and Pardee levels. I do wish CWF
was at least 5 years younger, but maybe he has a lot left in the tank. IMHO he is coaching now in the most difficult era of college football.

JMO but Pardee, Briles and even Scumlin were better coaches than Herman. Herman struck oil with Levine’s athletes and then left us high and dry to go to his dream school. He is where he deserves to be…

“Talent available”. There you have it.

We have over 300k alum. We possibly could

Can’t argue that point with you; but can’t deny CTH record either at this point. Lyin Tom was at least smart enough to let a phenomenal taIent like Greg Ward to do his thing.Like Sumlin with Case, sometimes you get lucky with who you inherit. hope his FAU tenure will take the shine off his career record.

Many of us posted reams of complaints about Dana’s lack of recruiting. It was glaring, and obvious.

So far our 2025 class looks very good. Fritz must keep it up. Not possible to win without players.

My first Cougar season was 1966. Our offensive backfield included Bo Burris, Dickie Post, Warren McVea, and Paul Gipson. All 4 of those guys became NFL draft picks! That was the kind of talent Yeoman had signed by his 5th. Season at UH.

Dana inherited QB Clayton Tune courtesy of Kendall Briles. How many NFL draft picks did Dana recruit and sign? In 5 years a few.

RECRUITING! Fritz must keep it up.

As much as we all hate Holgorsen, he did put 3 QBs in the NFL with Geno Smith, Will Grier, and Clayton Tune making the 53 man rosters.

Which QB did Fritz put in the league who made the opening day roster?
This is what concerns me as UH historically always had an elite QB in our successful seasons.

Who is “we” have been patient for 7 years?

Many of the posters here have lost our patience many decades ago. We have spent most of our lives being patient.

The difference between someone like me and countless others, is that the posters here are willing to take time to speak and vent.

For everyone of us, there our several thousand others who we have lost forever never to return.

Judging from Herman’s recruiting as head coach at UH, Texas and FAU, he is totally overrated as a recruiter.

Damm straight! and time is marching on for all of us. I’m ready for these guys who are saying we have a great future, top class on both sides of the ball, superior coaching, etc.etc. to step up and show us geezers how its done. Our time and money is done, now its their turn.

I think his recruiting here was overrated and anyone can recruit at Whorn.

As was Robert Newhouse who came along in 1969. Rumor has it that he went into the game against Mississippi State without Yeoman knowing about it. Jim Strong was the starter that year. That was a hell of a backfield too.

Some of the usual suspect are already calling the hire a mistake. Fortunately cooler heads are running the athletics at UH. Fritz is definitely the right hire. Here’s a fact, the guys we get in the portal are either guys looking to move up from lower divisions, guys that were not good enough to start at their former team, and guys who are homesick and want to come home to Houston.

As for HS kids that do well here and develop here, if we can’t pay they won’t stay. Money talks more than loyalty.

Two of those guys weren’t recruited by Dana, he came in when they were on the roster. All three were developed by multiple staffs. Contributing their draft and success in the NFL to Holgorsen is not totally correct.

If we can fill the stadium, that will mean we’re filling hotel rooms, restaurants and gas stations. Shopping too. That’s important.

That might be interesting to a small town, UH tourism in the 4th biggest city even if we filled every last seat would not move the City’s economy much.

It is a hand full of nights.

Maybe TDECU/GHP will want to host a bowl game. Every stadium in DFW hosts one so why not two here?

UH is a mess. I share a suite with my family. We had to call on Friday for our tickets. Really? And as an alum of the GSSW, can anyone tell me why we fired a popular Dean who put us in the top 25 nationally? We dropped 50+ spots one year later.

HOLY WHAT THE RANK DROPPED? (edit: yes it did)

McPherson made a MASSIVE uh oh for that. They were #22 under Detlaff and now they are 67.

“I don’t care if the next dean is an abolitionist social worker. The governor doesn’t care, and the president doesn’t care.”

I remember when that happened and UH giving no pure answer. McPherson (who is mainly in the COE) made a massive boo boo absolutely destroying the GCSW’s ranking.

Oh my. My brother got his mssw and liked the dean. I met him a couple of times and he seemed like a cool guy

Aside from that I didn’t/don’t know much about the social work program except that it’s pretty much open admission and that I didn’t like that it relied so heavily on free labor to programs around the city in the form of internships, it reminded me of the rodeo where you have to pay for the right to work long hours.

I didn’t realize it was so highly ranked.

Bad move if it dropped so precipitously because of the deans removal.
