Maybe.
But I don’t recall coach choosing Clayton over King.
Maybe.
But I don’t recall coach choosing Clayton over King.
Well, for those that say that Holgy did choose Clayton over King. And I’ve slowly opened my eyes to the possibility.
That distracts from my point really.
At any rate, he definitively went ALL IN on Tune.
Again, I don’t have any particular feeling either way. I’m just watching/listening and sharing my thoughts about the thread topic.
He certainly could from what I know about the eligibility rules.
My point- Get Tune as many live snaps and as much game experience as possible. Literally, every second of live football. So that going forward, next year or year after, he’s a game hardened vet.
The better tune is the better we are.
This year does not count toward eligibility. It is a gimme year for anyone who wants it.
I am sorry but sometimes I do not understand some of the reasoning that a very few have on this website.
Massoud just arrived.
He is getting his body ready for the next level.
HS level to Div I is a 100% times more difficult.
He is learning a new system. Do you think it takes “a football playbook for dummies” quick read to master it?
He will get there but just not now.
I have not thought Massoud should be the starter. I think it’s Tune, but I think we agree Holg jr is not the future. I have wondered why Massoud is not getting some in game snaps in garbage time. Anyone who plays this year does not have it affect future eligibility.
Cause he ain’t ready !
Guys we don’t even know if Massoud is any good trust me if he was better than Tune he would be in there
The kid enrolled early but spring got cancelled. Then our fall schedule has been problematic.
Those ripping young Holgy need to give the kid a break…he was a pure freshman last year and this year he has had very little playing time.
The kid knows the offense and I am sure dad is in a very tough situation here with his son being the backup.
Personally I have no problem with it. There is a reason Holgy is the backup…because he is better.
Massoud is a pure freshman with no experience at this level.
Whether he asserts himself as a starter or a backup, or moves to another position I am glad the kid picked our program.
No knock on Massoud, but he played in New York City and I don’t know the quality of play or the competition. In addition, we flipped him from Rutgers, not exactly a FB giant. He did put up impressive numbers in High School here however.
Young Holgs was a 3* in WVA and knows the system and is serviceable.
Yeah flipped from Rutgers no it’s not OSU, but Holgerson’s offer list was all MACtion and North Texas. So that is the very definition of stones in glass houses. Also Moussad came from New York and the CFISD here, which I think we’d agree is just a tad better than WV high school ball.
I don’t think most on here are closing for him to be the starter, but in garbage time for 4 games seems totally worth it to see what he can do. Holgerson’s son is a pretty known commodity, he’s ok and he knows the system. He’s definitely our number 2 right now but I’m blowouts Massoud should be given some reps, there’s no risk to it.
agree, would like to see a little of what he can do
I too just want to see a bit what he can do in a UH jersey.
I do not expect any blowouts the rest of the way…but I could be wrong
#1 NY high school football outside of a couple private schools that recruit is no great shakes. Most high schools have zero D1 prospects most years.
#2 Rutgers would have a hard time having a winning record in most D1 conferences most years.
Agreed for the most, and if there are blowouts we don’t want any part of them cause I’m willing to bet we are the ones getting blown out
haha
Curious how many “fans” on here are comfortable with a 14, 21 or 28 point lead going into the 4th quarter ? ? ? ? ?
Also, what are the potential outcomes of playing a true freshman this year ? ? ? ? ? Plays outstanding and everyone wants him to be our savior . . . . . Plays poorly and reads hundreds of negative comments on Coogfans . . . . . Gets hurt and has to rehab all of next year . . . . . The hue and cry on here would be unbearable, IMHO . . . . . I vote to let the well paid coach and staff make those decisions . . . . .
Depends on who we’re playing against. PVAM, Rice, etc. 28 points half way into the fourth? Yeah backups should be in. Most of the AAC and non conference? Nope keep the starters in. This makes me a “fan”
No there aren’t tons of benefits to him being out there. But in reality there are tons of risks either. Some folks who aren’t fans of Tune are already doing that very thing. So who cares, there doing it anyways. If he plays poorly, most of us recognize that it’s a true freshman getting experience in garbage time and learning. Some will be jerks, because we are a population of human beings, therefore there are jerks among us. If he gets hurt, that sucks for everyone but this is a free year and he’d still have a redshirt. This would be the softest landing in that worst case scenario.
The coaches are still making the decisions, as far as I know they are not scrolling or breakdowns of lineups or anything else. Their paychecks are quite safe. But I mean we could go with your proposed strategy it might slow the board down quite a bit though.
“What about this decision by CDH?”
“Well he’s the well paid coach, best not to question.”
“Agreed”
