I was optimistic when UH signed McFarland. I think his thin body type limits his upside. Perhaps he can get on a weight training program and add some weight and muscle at his new destination. I think he will excel if he drops down to DII.
When we signed him he was not huge, but was thicker than he is now. He was very quick and could shoot very well. I wish the kid had stayed well because he could have helped us this year. Best of luck to himā¦
Is this another indicator of Cenac coming back⦠wouldnāt McFarland have played the same roleā¦?
That still leaves 5 roster spots for the 3rd string. Surely no āstarterā is signing up to ride the bench all season
UH will be recruiting multiple āstartersā this year from the portal.
This past year, Michigan had 8-9 āstartersā on their team and we can expect CKS to try to replicate that here at UH this upcoming season.
Cenac worked with the 4s and McFarland the 5s but you never know.
Keep in mind that it couldāve been CKS & staff who told them to move on.
Thatās one part of entering the Transfer Portal that isnāt always discussed: When coaches tell you (or suggest) that youāre not part of their plans.
No, no⦠10 starters leaves 5 spots for 2nd string. No 3rd string players next year. All steak, no gristle.
Yesā¦finally someone else who gets it! ⦠Itās a brand new day and a new era!
I hear you, but I just donāt see any starting-caliber guys transferring here just to be #11-#15 on the depth chart. Would be nice if we could make that happen, but letās be realistic. Imo, it makes a lot more sense to fill those spots with developmental HS guys who will be core pieces for Kellen once he takes over as HC.
Again, Iām talking about spots 11-15, aka, 3rd string. No portal guy with aspirations of starting is willingly signing up for that.
With 8-9 spots to fill we will be going after 3-4 āminutesā type guys and the others will be who we can get at a good price or with future upside. I donāt see any other way unless Fertitta opens the checkbook and the $ really starts flowing then people maybe willing to come for the $ and forgo some PT but it is known our NIL is low for a top level team so unless something changes we will be bargain shopping some or looking for some guys with developmental potential
Is that known⦠I donāt think thatās true.
āWe are anything but poorā
-CKS
I highly doubt weāll be ābargain shoppingā for guys in the 2-deep. However, I do think 3 of the last 5 spots will be portal bargains or developmental HS guys. I really like Keonte Greybear to be one of those developmental HS guys and contribute in year 3 or 4
Realistic?!? Oh, youāve got me confused with someone else.

Why hasnāt Greybear or any other 2026 grad signed anywhere? Just curious.
I have no idea. I just saw he was still unsigned & decided to watch some highlights. Kid got game. Heās also of Native American heritage (like the Sampsons). I may be reaching here, but I think heād be a solid āstash & developā PG for Kellen.
Iām talking guys 13-15 on the depth chart. If you think weāre blowing our NIL budget on 3rd-string portal guys, idk what to tell you ![]()
CKS specifically mentioned the injuries to JoJo, Harwell and McFarland, he said it put us behind. Now if that was that problem with JoJo early on, he seemed to be better in March, we could have 100% JoJo next year. That is great news.
