There are plenty of examples for sure. That doesn’t mean it’s all (or nearly all) of them.

They sometimes come in not rich but almost all end up multimillionaires with a full time100k job and DC living expenses.

I just provided a link that shows over half don’t even hold individual stocks.

Trading stocks is different than prediction markets and crypto.
This really shouldn’t be a party issue, all corruption should be rooted out

Say you are a director and your company lands a huge government contract. It’s not public yet. If you buy a bunch of stock you could go to jail.
If a congressman was in the room when the deal closes and buys a bunch of your company stock, that’s legal. They hold the purse stings on billions. It’s potentially WAY worse for our society than the director above.
Absolutely! Cheating is cheating. So is stealing, even if it’s only “insider knowledge”.

I think we should require members of congress and the executive branch to have blind trusts or only hold passive stock investments.

We should all agree reform is needed. We are seeing all types of examples of the easy abuse that enriches the powerful and connected. We need to stop pulling for a party and start pulling for the people

Absolutely.
The 2 parties point fingers and deadlock it on purpose.
It would be nice if the public could unite on some of these issues. It would be good to build some unity but really it’s the only way it’s going to change.

Sounds good, but how far into the families should that restriction extend ? Spouses, siblings, children, aunts/uncles ? Insider trading could ( and most likely would) still happen.
Let’s start somewhere. You will never completely fix the problem but don’t want to make perfect the enemy of good.
We also should set up specific laws against it and set up investigations when laws are broken.
I’m sure it would be messy but the current process is pretty crazy to me.

Proposal for law restricting congressional insider trading:
Require all congressmen to publicly disclose their trades one full quarter in advance. Their trade closes at the price on closing day a full quarter after the whole world has had their chance to buy or sell the same stocks.
This world force them to invest long term only
I saw a YouTube video the other day I can’t find again.
It showed long gas lines and an industrial areas with nobody working and casually mentioned the workers were striking for months back pay and relief from inflation.
I googled after to see if it was real - no idea on the video - but apparently there have been little strikes.
The regime will never surrender or negotiate meaningfully. They would need to forcefully lose power, so discontent would help an uprising if one started. It’s the only glimmer of hope for a real change.
Probably more of nothing. But it appear lots of oil is also going through with transponders off. Pipeline increases in progress can take 1/2 the straights traffic and are supposed to be done in 1-2 years. Iran’s long term checkmate is melting away.
