Rats leaving the sinking ship

I personally find the swagger obnoxious but it’s probably a good angle for their program. Kelven cited Memphis as a program that’s doing right in terms of promoting an attractive image for players and recruits, and I sort of thing that’s a part of it.

A combination of “fake it till you feel it” and having a ;legit proud history and some recent success.

Not sure a sinking ship is necessary to take an LSU job.

Does anyone know a similar case at another program in past and what sanctions were brought down?

Are we talking a ban from tournament play for a couple years? Reduced scholarships? Hardaway being dismissed?

I wouldn’t expect anything dire. Look at the punishments Arizona and LSU received for worse violations. Nothing will happen to Memphis.

Its all about the $$$

I know its easy to pile in on Memphis but honestly I hppe they get off light. The NCAA routinely lets the big time programs get away with way worse.

So the Bates stuff won’t come out for a couple of years I guess.

Remember the old jokes when major school in state does something, receives minor sanctions. Minor school in state does something smaller in comparison, it pays the price so the NCAA shows they’re tough?

What ever happened to UNC with all those fake classes? Memphis is a small player in a good, but not “major” conference (P5 + BE.) Time for the NCAA to show they mean business.

UNC actually won the title the same year that scandal came out. They shouldve received a postseason ban at the minimum.

There’s literally a 0% chance of no wrong doing with the Duren and Bates signings. Maybe not included in these allegations, but there’s no way Penny signed those guys with no infractions.

Honestly the NCAA no longer serves a purpose and should be done away with.

At this point, it’s becoming an institution dedicated to its own self preservation, which when combined with money, can be quite dangerous.

I hope they try and impose sanctions so that someone else takes them to court and gets rid of it once and for all.

I’m not sure that’s true.

Wade was fired for cause once the infractions letter came in.

Obviously, Miller was already fired by AZ, but they haven’t received their official notice yet, I don’t believe. I read where AZ is expected to be notified this summer.

That said, it’s already in print that there is a move away from holding institutions accountable and towards more emphasis on holding the people involved accountable.

LSU’s case is interesting because they heard the same tapes as everyone else, and I believe Alleva wanted to fire him, but LSU pushed out the AD rather than showing integrity and firing the coach. So, watch that one for how the institution is treated.

These case aren’t being investigated by the NCAA directly, but that new unit, which I thought was supposed to be separate.

It’ll be interesting how it all plays out.

Go Coogs

As long as they weren’t sending too many text messages, Memphis should be fine.

“At least four of the seven violations are Level I and two are Level II, which is for “significant” breach of conduct. Memphis is accused of lack of institutional control, failure to cooperate with the NCAA’s investigation, obstruction of the investigation, failure to report acts of noncompliance in a timely fashion and a failure to disclose or provide access to information, according to the report.”

Hard to see on many phones.

Just like most governmental agencies . . . . .

Subject: THE NIGHT WATCHMAN
Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert.

Congress said, “Someone may steal from it at night.” So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, “How does the watchman do his job without instruction?” So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, “How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?” So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports.

Then Congress said, “How are these people going to get paid?” So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people.

Then Congress said, “Who will be accountable for all of these people?” So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, “We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back.” So they laid off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter. Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter administration?

Anybody? Anything? Anyone? No? Didn’t think so!

Bottom line is, we’ve spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency, the reason for which very few people who read this can remember!

Ready??

It was very simple
and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977,

TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND NOW IT’S 20 22 – 45 YEARS LATER – AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS “NECESSARY” DEPARTMENT IS AT $242 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE!

(THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, “WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?”) 34 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes – good old Federal bureaucracy.

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT? What can possibly go wrong?

Hello!! Anybody Home?

Signed
 The Night Watchman

In the NIL era, what could a school do that could possibly be a violation? Murder? Steal the NCAA Official’s vehicles?
