They’re a legit team. Not as good as the hype from Penny or the national sports media, but outstanding talent. Beat us 2/3 this year so you have to tip your cap.
I don’t like the unwarranted swagger–they act like they’re the ones with all the league and national credentials, not us–but that is good for making the rivalry all the more interesting. As long as we keep winning the league and tourney and doing great in the NCAAs, Memphis can talk all they want and I don’t care.
That’s maturity. Leaving locker room talk in the locker room and focusing on the objective. Sampson has a lot of years ahead of him. Penny will get there but I think he needs some older players to give him a break from all the baby-sitting.
Memphis beat Writers Guesses on what he thinks will happen with memphis roster
Going Pro:
– Duren
could go either way (pro/portal):
– Minott (always thought of himself as 1 and done)
– Bates (ended the season amicably- could be promised big role)
– Jayden
– Lomax (memphis looking to recruit over him, he is aware)
– Nolley (leaning towards grad transfer),
– Williams (loves memphis, might get NIL money)
– Lester (will want a bigger role, depends what penny tells him)
Thinks they will be Back:
– Timberlake (doesn’t want to sit out), Lawsons, Tyler, Dandridge, Onu.
these are guesses -
note beat writer: mentions of some scary good PGs that memphis will target from the portal… there are no scary good pgs currently in the portal. he has names but won’t mention
It started with Wiseman. They are in deep trouble. Any freshman looking at Memphis may never see an NCAA tournament game. Memphis is a small fish. Small fish get fried.
The Commercial Appeal report — which includes excerpts of the notice of allegations — shows that the investigation goes much deeper than just the Wiseman incident.
Memphis committed seven separate violations spawning from “lack of institutional control” to “failure to monitor” from the head coach position. The notice of allegations claims Hardaway “failed to demonstrate that he promoted an atmosphere of compliance within the men’s basketball program.”
The report also states that Memphis turned in a hard drive belonging to assistant coach Mike Miller into the NCAA with significant portions of it deleted.
