Memphis getting huge NIL Deal. Congratulations Tigers

“We talkin’ bout…Mudcats!”

Similar things were said about Memorial Herman when they sponsored our football operation center.

Awesome for Memphis.

I just don’t understand. Houston is home to the biggest oil companies in the world. You would
think UH could land some big time NIL money

I was thinking the same thing. Shead did get a NIL deal with Exxon though. Hopefully, that was a foot in the door for them and we’ll see a similar deal for UH.

It amazes me how many people here do not understand NIL and how we are poised to be one of the top NIL schools in the country.

NIL is about to turn college sports upside down and the schools in marketable cities, with an abundance of top companies willing to align themselves with the top school in that metro are going to reign supreme.

Saban saw the writing on the wall. …Tuscaloosa Alabama is a horrible NIL spot… and their fan’s NIL donations will soon run dry because they have poor t-shirt fans in a poor state

Saban is no dummy

I understand having your name on a building — It’s the nebulous cloud money that seems a waste.

I asked you this once before…I genuinely have no idea and am not debating your claim at… in fact it’s exciting!

But…WHEN?

I’m not looking for the milestone that will allow for it.

I’m looking for the YEAR (or your best guess).

Excellent use of persuasive rhetoric, Dean.
But in case 27 doesn’t deliver.

EVIDENCE, 27!!!
…or a prediction

NIL is still in its infancy but Bucket #11 is NIL money raised from alumni/ t-shirt fan donations.

Schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Michigan, USC have endless supply of rich alums with tons of disposable income, beyond generational wealth, so they will have no problem sustaining this bucket.

You may see some fall off, like Aggie donors who felt they threw their money away a few years ago but i think they will continue to fund their buckets.

Now, poorer schools, In poor states, smwith a ton of non graduate t-shirt fans ( the LSUs, Alabama, Mississippi, etc. Of the world) where their sustainable NiL buckets are coming from.

Those schools have embarassing low Endowments which tells me they have few donors giving substantial money back to the University.

The University of Houston, once our state money comes in, will have an Endowment 2 or 3 times these alledged powers of the P2.

Saban realized Alabama’s pre NIL $100 or $500 handshakes instantly became $100k donations and there was no way the average Alabama fan (a non graduate t-shirt fan) was going to be able to sustain that.

Alabama…and LSU …and that class can only tap into the former athletes so many times and their t-shirt fans are going to realize giving away what little generational wealth they have to athletes is an incredibly dumb move

Remember, TV media $$ is NOT NIL money. That goes to the Athletic department…not to players.

Now Bucket #2 is large corporate donations in large metro areas is where UH can shine over time. But i wouldn’t count us out of Bucket # 1, rich UH alums are all over the place .

We will be top 5% on bucket #2 and over time, will be above average on bucket #1.

Unfortunately, i see Texas being the king of the post NIL world- rich powerful state, big city, rich alums BUT NIL will allow the University of Houston to catapult into the top 25% for the same reasons UT will reign supreme

Ok…but WHEN?

It’s part of marketing and reputation management. These are ‘deposits in the bank of public opinion.’ And they come in handy when something goes wrong and they have to withdraw from that account. So it makes good business sense and shareholders will be ok with it.

It just takes one charismatic coach. Herman would have done wonders if we had NIL during his time here. Probably.

Hopefully Fritz will be.

When the broke NIL donors donating to bucket #1 realize its not a good idea to give generational wealth to college athletics for little, to no, return.

It will be a ‘school by school’ time-line.

Schools with donors with F-You money can continue to fund bucket #1.

UH needs to keep taking advantage of the plentiful bucket #2 options of being in a huge market with tons of corporations looking for advertising opportunities.

On bucket #1, Tilman’s term as president of the BOR will end eventually and then he could fund bucket #1 along with our other incredibly wealthy former students like Moores, Nantz, Lizzo, Couples, Lil Wayne, Keenum, Olajuwon, Drexler, Parsons, Warren, Sebold, etc.

We have a TON of wealthy alums, former students or fans associated with the program.

Heck…if our NIL collevtive hasn’t contacted Taylor Swift, they aren’t doing their job. She is a billionaire and she is from a UH family.

Her mom is a UH alum and she’d be a legacy if she ever wanted to earn a degree here.

I’m hearing you clarify why and how it will (or should) happen. But still no when.

When you initially said it “will” happen, that sounded promising. But if the “when” is possibly “never” that doesn’t sound promising at all.

I’m seeking an opinion (from anybody that has one and agrees with your claim) as to WHEN UH will be holding such a competitive advantage.

I keep seeing responses that qualify as why or how.

WHEN?

If you or anyone that is like me (and don’t know or cant/won’t guess WHEN it will ocurr), that is 100% fine… just say that. But if you know it WILL happen (as claimed)…WHEN will that be? Or what is your best guess?

Again, I’m hoping to hear things like:

  • I have no idea, maybe never
  • I hope it might ocurr in 3 years
  • I see it happpening likely in 83 years
  • my guess is in the next two decades
  • 2050 or sooner
  • Only know how or why, cant address when
  • Sorry, i don’t know nor does anybody even have a reasonable guess.
    Etc.

(note, all are guesses or admitting there is no way to know if it will ever ocurr, but they at least TRY to answer the WHEN aspect vs the WHY).

Sorry, not trying to complain. I just get excited to imagine the day when UH can be on a much more even playing field, yet all talk of it seems to never come to fruition. I’d rather feel better about getting my hopes up or know that it really is more of an unlkely result.

My goodness, some moron puts out few things on social media and uses terms like BOOM and the aftermath celebratory overreaction on this board.
I spoke to a well respected coach and he threw out two names of former coaches who have set this program back.

  1. Holgy because of what we are having to pay him to be gone. (We have not started receiving the financial windfall from the Big 12
  2. Herman - There has not been a bigger ahole who did more damage behind the scenes than this clown.

It will happen sooner, than later.

In my opinion, Saban retiring was DIRECTLY related to his knowing that Alabama will not be one of the benefactors of the new NIL world.

He left us with multiple quotes along those lines. Unfortunately, Texas is poised to take their spot.

So…i guess it is already happening.

For UH, we’ve already used NIL to build what many predict will be the preseason #1 in basketball.

For football, give it 2-3 years and we will easily be in the top 25% of the Big 12.

Schools like Baylor are dead in the water…and they know it.

Thank you for that (and the patience here).

I’m just so hopeful to see things feel more reasonably even (or maybe even to our advantage) for once.

Sounds like good is in store if that pans out!

Unsurprising. The butt hurt still stings for some people I guess. We’re past the initial hurt that we can look at the Herman tenure more objectively and the dude just flat out elevated our program. From the tile all the way to a NY6 win.

It will take 5+ years for UH to catch up with the old money schools.

Many of our graduates are first generation and didn’t come from well off families.

We can close the gap if we churn out graduates who can land great paying jobs.
