Insane4Twain brought this up in another thread. I thought it deserved its own topic.
What do you think is or are the most overrated song(s). I’ll go first (obviously).
Piano Man - Billy Joel
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
Foxy Lady - Hendrix

Hotel California - Eagles
Imagine - Lennon
Tiptoe Through The Tulips - Tiny Tim
Ballad of the Green Berets - Barry Sadler
You light up my life - Debbie Boone
My question would be is what makes these songs overrated? Also, even better, why not give us the most underrated song from the same artist?
Explains a lot.
PS All three are fantastic classics.
Most everything by Van Morrison. Except “Gloria”.
Overrated = “popular songs I don’t like” ![]()
How about overplayed? Or, just sick of those songs.
OK. I’ll play. Underrated is harder, because it’s probably a song that doesn’t/didn’t get much air time. For example, Zeppelin’s Ten Years Gone is in my top 3 favorite Zep songs, but it didn’t get much air play.
Billy Joel - total blank here. I love everything I’ve heard from Billy, except Piano Man
Eric Clapton - The Core
Hendrix - Voodoo Chile - the 15 minute song with Steve Winwood playing the organ.
Chattanooga Choo-Choo
Patti LaBelle singing the National Anthem at the all-star game.
Not gonna lie. I thought she was dead.
How about “That’s What Friends Are For?”
Gotta be the most overdone “sentimental” song EVER!!!
I never thought of myself as an influencer, but if I inspired a whole 'nother thread, I guess I qualify. I only remember recently confessing I hate “Layla,” “Free Bird,” and “Inagawdaffuldavida.”
Coachv submitted “Tiptoe Through the Tulips.” How could that song be overrated? It’s like overrating “Mr. Jaws.” It was novelty song at best, as was the performer.
Incidentally, I have a photo of Tiny Tim showing up at my brother’s wedding reception. As you can imagine, his newly-wed bride bore an expression similar to one who just learned her mother would be appearing on an episode of Jerry Springer.
I’ll play after all.
Sweet Home Alabama
Glad it’s never played anymore.

We agree on something!!!
Makes me happy that my son chose UNT over Bama or I would have had to hear that song for the rest of my life.
Actually, he chose Bama, but we didn’t get enough scholarship $.
Maggie May (and just about anything by that untalented, whinny snot)
Ground control to major tom…… ughhh
Anything by Barry Manilow.
Mrs V would fling a flip flop at you for that
