Europe gas prices, are you all ready for this?
Well are you?

California can relate…oh yes, EV’s sell well in California.
By the way the Valero refinery is being sold…

I purchased my second EV in January of this year. I have a Ford Mustang Mach E 2022 that I purchased in 2022 , and added a 2025 BMW I7in January. I won’t go back to a ICE vehicle. I am not an electric car ambassador but I can tell you I enjoy driving them more than my last ICE cars. I charge at home so I never deal with public charging unless I go on a road trip and I have made several trips to Dallas from Houston. Road trips are easy there are a lot of chargers from Houston to Dallas. On my Mach E, the only extra cost I have had is a new set of tires. I stay out of gas stations and operating both vehicles is much cheaper. when charging at home. When I was looking for a 2nd vehicle I didn’t consider buying a gas car. The acceleration of an electric vehicle is really hard to match. My wife was resistant to driving my Mach E and was scared to try it out., but she had to use it one day and she decided to start driving it instead of her Lexus SUV. I also feel better that she can stay away from gas stations and charge at home.
I’m in the market for a new mid size ICE SUV for the wifey. Our 2014 Traverse LTZ with 165k miles, bought new, has served us well but it’s getting time to trade in.
I don’t generally like foreign or luxury brands and want a V6 engine. I’m usually a GM guy but their 2025s all have I4s with a turbo. I don’t like that on such a big vehicle.
This will probably be my last ICE vehicle. After this at minimum a PHEV is in the cards for myself. I must have 240V charging but my electrical panel is full… so there’s an added expense…or maybe use the clothes dryer circuit. We’ll see.
Thoughts on new SUVs anyone?
Funny, an actual owner but not a single mention of buying an EV because he wants to save the planet.
Honda Pilot still has a V6. Built in Alabama.
What would you say your energy cost per mile has been with you EVs? 3 cents or around there as I calculated before buying a hybrid?
I’m considering the Toyota Land Cruiser 1958. It’s a hybrif
My dad was a big Chrysler guy. He was parts manager at a Plymouth dealership in our town. I loved the sound of those 60s Chrysler starters when firing up an engine. Bad azz engines and performance.
So, dumb me, I brought a Chrysler when i went off to college at UH. That thing was the biggest freaking lemon I have ever owned. It was even yellow.
I swore off Chrysler since then. BUT, I am intrigued by the 2025 Durango with rear wheel drive and V6 and V8 Hemi options. Unhealthy attraction I fear but I’m gonna go test drive one.
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic , but if people start buying EVs to “save the planet”
Then they’re forced to start questioning everything else that’s harming the planet.
You bought an EV… so… why not advocate to scale public transit? Why not end NIMBYism? Why not allow for multi-use housing in single family residential neighborhoods? Why not stop eating meat? → all of these things are just a few examples that would dramatically assist with saving the planet
So instead, many people are trying to find every other reason for owning an EV because they want to sustain the status quo for everything else about their standard of living (which, is unsustainable)
But that’s one of those 4 cylinder turbos he’s trying to avoid.
Did you get the K-Car?
My dad sold cars at Archer Chrysler Plymouth on 59 back in the 70’s. He said after you sold one, you had to hide in case the customer came back.
I bought a Buick Envision a few years ago with the I4s with a turbo. They have a lot of power, I don’t have the vehicle anymore, I gave it to a relative, and she hasn’t had any problems with it. You might want to check those out, they are pretty nice looking vehicles and have a lot of luxury features. They are a good value. I don’t think you can go wrong with a Toyota, Subaru or Honda. The Koreans make reliable economical cars as well. We bought a Lexus RX in 2024 , they are nice and they aren’t that expensive.
I calculated I was getting about 80 mpg when I compared the cost per kwh with price per gallon on gasoline. I haven’t recalculated in a while. I did my last calculation 0n 12 cents per kWh but I think I am paying 14 now for charging at home. There’s all kinds of electricity that you can get, with free nights and you can set your car to charge at night. My BMW gave me several hundred free KWH’s which I calculated would be about 6,000 miles in free charging.
80 mpg fits my estimates…which had pure EV about half the energy cost vs hybrid and less than a third the cost vs ICE.
Just saw a BYD pickup in South Padre. Heavily tricked out. Awesome looking, like a bigger version of a Maverick.
I was in San Luis Potosí a few weeks ago for work. I saw a lot of BYD’s there and they are pretty nice looking cars. There was another brand called G.A.C. and they have a medium size suv for about $12,000 U.S. that they were advertising. One of the people I was visiting bought one for his wife.
No, I saved up some money working at HEB and bought a used 1977 Cordoba. This was 1983.
It had a 400 cid engine and ran pretty good when not trying to fix it. It had had its original electronic ignition system converted to conventional. It had chronic electrical issues and i had to replace the alternator 2 or 3 times a year. It got to the point where I had a spare alternator in the trunk and necessary tools for a quick swap…sometimes on campus between classes

An Envision with th I4 turbo would probably work for me. Thing is we also want 3 row seating which puts us to the Enclave. As of now, I4 is a no go for me that larger car.
Shame, because previous generations of the Enclave, Acadia, and Traverse all had V6s.
I guess they don’t like Ford’s CEO either, EV sales down 31%.
