The mob is going to find you if you support crazy stuff.
I see what you’re saying and don’t think it’s wrong. I just think that is just something that’s going to happen with social media. You can get rid of likes but that’s not going away.
I also don’t think this is a huge issue. I’ve never had an angry mob come for me or anyone I know. I think they are far more likely to go after celebrities and I’m not sure they need Elon to protect them.
Agreed. But there seems to be a lot of angry mobs out there these days!
I mostly lay low on social media on some topics. Because what one mob percieves to be “crazy” is what another mob is wanting to hold people “accountable” for. And the key point is NONE of the angry mobs are even remotely open minded. Any of us that choose to be outspoken might be guilty of being in a “bad” angry mob (or at least supportive of it in an unfair manner).
That pendullum seems to be swinging wildly. And there is no doubt in my mind that in that way, free speach is arguably less safe than it was previously.
How to make it safer is certainly a topic for debate.

Part of the problem is the way these conversations go. For instance, I support the acceptance and tolerance of lgbtq people. So when that comes up in another thread, the person who doesn’t claims I support children having sex reassignment surgery. I never said anything about that particular issue, and it is completely a separate question from treating someone lgbtq with general respect and allowing them the same rights as others.
Every response to some subjects is the absolute extreme. “you’re a Republican so you’re a fascist” or “you’re a Democrat so you hate America” etc. not just along political lines either but you get the point.
And I know it cant solve it in this case, but if you were still “anonymous” (id-wise) they would be less prone to responding with a pre conceived bias back at you.
Altrustic I know. But kind of my point for there being some value in anonymity.

I don’t know, in this case I think the attackers anonymity emboldens him. That and he can’t just ignore any thread that has a mention of tolerance for lgbtq people, but complains it is shoved down his throat.

Which, as I think about it, is the easiest way to not have to worry about the mob. Don’t tell the Xitter world your name. Do most regular folks do that?
Is rando grandma with 42 followers really getting attacked because looked up the likes on a post and saw she liked it? What even would make them do that?
My guess is the mob is overwhelmingly attacking celebrities and people looking for trouble.
