NCAA Ref Lee Cassell

Really? Do you mean 2 to 3 seconds maybe?

Not debating that bad call. But I have to question that 5 or 6 seconds claim. Seems literally unheard of to me for a whistle to wait that long for that.

the jump ball call before aggies made the buzzer beater 3 was shady too, that call was so quick. it was like to set them up for one last chance. from the replay, it seems like wilson got all ball.

And they added time too. Wilson had the ball the whole time.

They are held accountable.

In the NCAA tournament each referee is judged after each round.
If they made poor calls ( graded out poorly) they are not chosen to referee the next round
.and so on.

I doubt this particular ref made the cut for the Sweet 16

Looks like all three refs from the Ag game made the S16 cut. Not sure when game assignments are announced.

If they did then what does that say about the guys grading them?

I think it says that there is more to this than meets the eye. Like say someone bet on the Aggies to cover the 9.5 spread and ‘persuaded’ the officials to see things his way. Watch how the betting lines move just before game time to preview the outcome.

The foul would have been on Agy for reaching around.
One of the worst calls in tournament history.

After watching the refs go against the rules of basketball to blatantly cheat for A$M and Michigan a few years ago we have the right to complain! We’re talking about the refs that cheated so badly that they defied the rules of basketball and stopped the Coogs’ momentum every time the Coogs pulled ahead of their opponents with their great plays by calling fouls on the Coogs! It’s like they are there to help the other teams win! Why should the Coogs have to play with such shady refs who are always trying to plot against them, what’s wrong with demanding a competition that isn’t rigged and with refs that aren’t trying to cheat against us all the time?

A game that isn’t honestly officiated isn’t a real competition, as far as I am concerned! A jump ball call by the ref as soon as he saw a Coog took full control of the ball in a missed shot, but we can’t complain about that ref’s shady call? Are you kidding me? Do those refs have the right to cheat against us or something? And we should simply keep our mouths shut and watch them do it to us over and over again, huh? Is cheating a part of the refs’ job or something? If it happened to Duke or A$M in their game against us ESPN would put that play on rerun 24/7 for the next week and the talking heads would cry nonstop for years about how the Coogs won the game illegitimately just like they have done against the Astros! Then those refs would lose their job over it!

How come such blatant shady calls never happen to our opponents, but happened to us on a regular basis? Remember how the refs called numerous foul calls against us as the game was winding down to help Michigan beat us? Ooh, it also happened to us in our game against Kentucky! Why such calls always happen against us, but never for us? In honest mistakes such bad calls would happen to both teams, but it has consistently happened against us but never for us! These shady refs made sure of that!

Except he did. Also, they aren’t held accountable. If grades aren’t public it isn’t accountability. This has already been establish in other sports and even the NBA. Otherwise they just claim accountability but have none.

Edit: I’m also going to remind everyone that someone else here has already pointed out that the ref that made the horrible late game call against Samford for Kansas also made the S16 officiating lineup. So they took the refs that made the WORST mistakes and put them in. Makes sense to me.

Have they been assigned to our game vs Duke?

If they are, we riot!

I get it sometimes in a fast moving games refs are going to miss some bang bang calls. However the held ball call does not fall into that category. The lead ref was standing there in perfect position. The rule is clear. A held ball is called when both teams have hands on the ball and it can’t be secured without undue force. This never happened and the whistle was blown after Wilson had the ball and was about to outlet it to Shead. The game should have never went to overtime. It should have ended with Shead on the free throw line. Hard to believe a ref at this level would miss this call.

In the NCAA tournament the refs usually let them play. One team getting 45 free throws is beyond belief.
