please please please pick BOB.
Bob was hired because of how he handled the scandal at Penn. Then he had to handle the scandal on the Texans. His coaching was not amazing and you can see he was not a good coach at all here and average over there.
Nebraska isnât coming back. They won in the big8 and only had OU to deal with then in the big12 a little success. They used to win big bc Tom Osborne was good and stayed yrs, the partial qualifiers and the country ships they would give to walk ins on Neb who were good. They now have to deal with a bunch of good big 10 teams each yr that are as good as OU was.
They get money but wonât ever be back like they used to.
This is why Iâm a fan of regional conferences where you have 8 to 10 teams and a few big dogs then let them play in big bowls or playoffs and the diversity of the regional conferences matching up made it interesting. Too many good teams in 1 conf kills former big dogs which is whatâs happening to Neb and could happen to usc and ucla. Weâre gonna be ok bc we had to move up to survive but those 3 didnât. They are choosing money over winning long term which will bite them longterm.
QB Whisperer. That kinda faded over the seasons thoughâŠ
Being a great NFL coach and college coach arenât the same thing. BOBâs NFL coaching record is actually pretty similar to Sabanâs. No reason to think he canât be a really good college HC.
Nebraska has one of the best NIL collectives in the country and despite sucking the last few years still pull 85-90k in attendance. The right coach could absolutely still win titles there.
Heâs taking about nebraska and b12
Well Nebraska did win 2 national titles in the Big 12 and played for another. They were the dominant team of the 1990s.
Its coaching and recruiting.
they could but not in the big10. Money aside, moving to the big10 has been an abysmal failure for them
People say that, but I donât know if that is true anymore.
These athletes today focus on more than just money. Otherwise, the TX Schools, CA schools, NY schools and IL schools would dominate.
Like most people looking for jobs out of school, they focus on more than just money. They look for schools in places that fit their values, make them feel comfortable, and provide them with a platform to be themselves and increase their publicity. Sorry, but I donât see NE being that sort of place; in fact it is probably be the opposite. Trev Alberts doesnât seem like the kind of person to allow that. You see what happened to UT after those emails came out regarding the boosters? I donât hear anyone talking about U-Teeâs NIL. The only two big names they got were Quinn Ewers, who already had a large NIL deal, and Manning, who some people are now saying is somewhat overrated. You know TAMU, Bama, OU and its other peers are using that against them. I know I would.
From my own experience, there have been numerous instances where I have turned down jobs in FL, CA, MI, TN and TX because I donât want to live in those places, even with the money and all.
Players want to play in front of sold out arenas, make money, and play for a coach that can develop their skills and get them to the NFL. Theyve got the first two, once they hire a legit coach theyâll hqve the trifecta.
Not so fast, if alum Scott Frost, who was lights out good at UCF, canât turn them around, it makes you wonder if the ship has sailed in Lincoln. They used to recruit Texas hard, got Planoâs best RB in Rex Burkhead, but cannot keep the Texas pipeline without B12. You got to hand it to those fans, they have the opposite problem as us, terrible product for 20 years and too many fans.
Frost was an unproven coach who caught lightening in the bottle with the Milton kid. His teams at Nebraska had the talent to compete they were just extremely undisciplined, sign of bad coaching. They get the Campbell guy and theyll be a perennial contender in the Big 10 within 3 years.
They have 1.5 million people in Nebraska, what else they got to do, besides watching the Cornhuskers and shucking corn?
There are always excuses, but they are committed. What if the weather is not good, or the time is not good, or the opponent is not good, WHAT IF YOU LOST EVERY GAME! They are loyal.
Nebraska wonât be back like they were. Miami neither. Nebraska has to deal with Ohio st, penn st, Wisconsin and much. And now maybe usc. Itâs gonna be tough for them bc they lost texas recruiting.
So now theyâre Ne-back-ska.
The clip from the big 12 Iowa st ad on the radio with that talk show on the other thread mentioned why they will struggle. They no longer do prop 48 partial qualifiers or the farm country ships. They were the first to really have a great weight program then everyone caught up and duplicated it. Nebraska no longer has advantages like they used to have. They also donât have a coach staying decades that is good unless they get lucky with a good coach again
Not sure I agree. Too many instances of players passing up big time schools for smaller ones where they can make a mark.
The local guy here in GA, who chose Jackson State over FSU and UGA, is a good example.
Also, another kid, a QB at my sonâs HS, chose Bama over Stanford. Now, as a father, I would have backslapped him for turning down such an opportunity. But my son says that the dude would not fit in well at Stanford and so probably just chose the school he felt most comfortable at, despite NIL.
These are two examples, and I am sure there are others.
I just donât see a way that Nebraska is going to be able to get over these humps to get the players they need to be truly competitive like they were before. Now, if they go the Iowa route, and just be happy being 7-5 to 9-3 every season, winning the BIG West, and then getting demolished by OSU in the BIG Title game, then fine. Some people, including some NE alum, say that is exactly what they should do.
