New UH Athletic Director, the search goes on

He is well respected in the sports industry and was vital in grtting the Dynamo a stadium.

I think we put too much stock in coaches’ input - at the end of the day its about them and them only - there are issues I know for a fact he could go global on and really shake up things but they all have agendas

Has a habit of getting involved when she shouldn’t and isn’t knowledgeable about the subject

Is Khator more cost conscious while Fertitta is pulling the athletic strings?

Unfortunately they don’t have a great track record and LOTS of turnover

I’d give them a star for the following hires:

Coach Sampson
Coach Herman

AD Rhodes

The rest have been colossal failures that either required huge buyouts or pay check cashers only

I don’t want herman within a 1000 miles of UH

My sources say no

What business does the president have commenting on the hiring of a VP of athletics anyway.

Geez
ANOTHER candidate with ties to West Virginia.

Correct me if im wrong, but WVU is a lot closer to an Oregon State or Washington State type of program than a big P2 program.

Her LSU ties do help salvage her WVU connection!

No they aren’t. They are the flagship u in west Virginia.

Also, our challenges as an athletic department look a lot more like those of OrSt and Wazzu and Cincy than they do LSU or Ole Miss. Regardless of where you think we should be, that’s where we are, and if we’re going the “inside the box” route with this hire then it makes sense that we’d want someone who’s worked in departments that face similar barriers.

She made NILSU work. Ain’t that what we need more than anything else right now?

We need to stop viewing the flagship Universities of low population, low economic output states as SUPERIOR to the University of Houston.

UH beats WVU in every academic ranking, has more students, receives more state funding and has a higher Endowment (WAY higher once we receive our approved funds) and sits in a far more powerful state
not even close.

Those factors cancel out the “flagship” designation. You’d have to be the flagship of a top 15 state to be ahead of UH.

I’d much rather be the Univetsity of Houston than the flagship public University of the state of “West” Virginia.

As I’ve stated multiple times we just need to improve our culture and campus/surrounding area to cater toward traditional students

I need more than a selling point “came from Big State U”. UH has some unique challenges that most Big State Us never face. Fourth largest city, competing with pro teams, various college teams with huge alumni bases in Houston, and all the entertainment the fourth largest city has to offer. Don’t tell me Baton Rouge, LA or Morgantown, WV is a good indicator if a person can fund raise.

Tell me how you are going to raise funds in the fourth largest city, overcoming all the obstacles your predecessors faced. Tell me what changes you would make to the Athletic Department to maximize efficiency and service to the fanbase. What role do you feel the AD plays in NIL?

Ummm
NCAA says WVU is #12 for having the most successful football and basketball teams in the country combined.

Yeah, we should really look down on them. /s
