New UH Athletic Director, the search goes on

Oliver Luck would be a home run hire. I’m not familiar with the other candidates.

Really?

They were also runners up on two subsequent occasions.

But who is counting?

Famous last words about the Holgorson hire also.

Wow…UH “stole away” a P5 coach.

“Homerun hire”

Nah…just a guy looking for a ton of money in a safe environment.

That’s also how i feel about luck.

We need a BY or Luhnow type…not an Oliver Luck type

Thats like saying James Click was responsible for ALL of the world series trips he went to.

This hire has nothing to do with Dana. Focus on Oliver Luck’s resume. Oh and by the way you have exhausted us with your let’s find a BY hire. We know. You’ve said it multiple times. That’s all you do is repeat yourself. Enough. Take some time off from Coogfans.

Actually my exact words were ‘let’s get Jeff Luhnow, imagine what he could do running a whole P4 athletic department’ but he appears to be unavailable.

My next suggestion was Reid Ryan. Not sure if they even interviewed him.

Oliver Luck is the safe UH move that Tilman likes to make so i hope it works but just like with Applewhite & Holgorson, i wouldn’t have even brought him in for an interview but what the Hell do i know?

Has Reid Ryan raised money from corporations and individuals? Has he been involved in sports outside of baseball or at any university?

Luck would certainly add gravitas to the Big 12 meetings.

Ryan is the current CEO of Ryan- Sanders Baseball

This part of the company is interesting since he could use his connections to help UH:

The Ryan Sanders partnership formed long ago with the collaboration between Ryan and Houston financier as well as former Astros minority owner, Don Sanders. Sanders leads one of the most successful wealth management firms in the country with 38 offices nationwide managing over $18 billion in assets.

Luck has been floating around for decades now as a hot name at various levels of athletics, and I’m really not sure why. Dude seems like he’s just sort of floated to the top on vibes. The only thing that I can tell he’s actually done is provide half the DNA for an NFL QB.

If Luck wants the job, I think it should be his. He’s familiar with the area and has AD experience. He’s also one of the greatest QBs in Oilers history! (I kid on that part).

5-10 years ago, I would have loved to have Luck. I’ll pass now.

He’s 64, experience is far removed, and we need someone to do something very different than what he did in his last AD role.

Just a hunch but working for Dr. Khator may be driving some candidates away. She is known for having extremely high expectations and wanting results. I say, what is wrong with that? The candidate UH hires will be up for the challenge.

JD said as much in this article yesterday.

It’s more about her and Tilman running the show and not giving autonomy though.

Not many of those around. Before NIL, facilities drove your chances of recruiting success and being a winning program. In 10 years, plenty of those ADs will have learned the new path forward. Now? Probably a mere handful.

Get a media and marketing/fundraising whiz to develop NIL. We can hire administrators to run everything else.

Unfortunately he’s not interested at all. (Luck) He’s well set after winning his lawsuit.

Get out of the second tier sports world. Find someone in another industry who wants to run it like an upstart service company. Someone who can bind the Houston business community to the school for the next 30 years. And take your time. It’s not like we were firing on all cylinders with Pezman.

Our WVU member is being really quiet. I would ask him if Luck left the athletic department better, the same, or worse than it was when he arrived.

For me hiring Oliver Luck would feel very much like when we hired Dana Holgorson. (Well he’s got P5 experience but WVU hadn’t been a power house. It must’ve been West Virginia’s fault.)

Oliver Luck was a hot name at one time. But that buzz has been fading for some time.

We need someone whose name is trending up and people will want to answer his/her call and love to meet the person

I hope we take a long look at the lady VP from the NFL who’s a UH grad.

Coach Sampson coming out about the need to help Coach Fritz with marketing the football program was the round that sank Pezman’s ship. At that point, I think it caused a reality check about how things were really going (softball program, lost opportunity for fundraising going into the BIG12, Ops building hot mic :microphone: incident). No, we did not have someone lined up, but knew the marriage was over with Pezman.
