NIL ruined college football

Nah.

The city limits extend all the way to Hwy. 6. Beyond that, Katy starts. It’s a suburb.

I don’t remember that. Got any link to it?

you think THE CITY OF HOUSTON, as in the Inner Loop Culture/ amenities/ attractions extends to High way 6?

I think you are confusing Metro area with City.

I grew up in Spring…when I went to UH, I 100% thought I was going away TO HOUSTON for school.
Inner Loop Houston is NOTHING like the Suburbs

NYC Borough residents do NOT consider someone out in Long Island as living “In the City”

Suburb: a district lying immediately outside a city or town, especially a smaller residential community.

Exurb: a small, usually prosperous, community situated beyond the [suburbs](SUBURB Definition & Usage Examples | Dictionary.com) of a city.

Katy is a district lying IMMEDIATELY OUTSIDE a city (Houston). So by your own definition, it’s a suburb.

The city’s (Houston’s) city limits extend all the way to the edge of Katy. Trust me on this. I grew up off of Hwy 6 WITHIN the Houston City Limits, and now live in the SUBURB of Katy, which lies just outside those city limits.

Check the map if you don’t believe me. Hwy 6 is roughly the westernmost edge of the city limits or damn close, and Katy lies just beyond that.

I am convinced that one of the reasons UH has little alumni support for sports is because we have never won a national title in a major sport (Basketball, Football, Baseball).

If we do, it will change.

It’s more of the combination below

  1. We have no old money alumni like other schools.

  2. Many of us are first generation graduates and don’t have much to invest into NIL.
We got to take care of ourselves and families first before donating.

  3. We didn’t develop a generational pipeline as a number of UH graduates send their kids to other universities.

Katy doesn’t touch Houston, there are suburbs like Cinco Ranch in between.

It almost touches at one point but doesn’t.

UTEP and Rice won national championships in those major sports, look at them today.

UConn won 5 national championships and they can’t even get to a P5 conference.

Cincinnati has 2 national championships in basketball and they just joined the Big 12 like we did after decades of wandering in the desert like UH did.

UConn is a dang good university; the only reason it is not in a P4 is because its football sucks. If it was even a passing program, it would be in. Its basketball is so good that it probably doesn’t matter anyway. I would still bet that at some point if it wants, it will get an ACC or Big 12 invite, it may even get BIG if it gets AAU status, which is inevitable at this point.

Villanova, Georgetown, and Gonzaga are not in P4 conferences and they seem to be doing just fine, academically, financially and athletically.

There is some truth, but I know plenty of UH alum that are wealthy. If we win a chip, I promise you that you will see more donations. It is just the way Houston is.

Remember when the Rockets won back to back titles? Before this, Houston was probably middle of the pack in terms of attendance. After the titles, we were top five for like 10 years! Astros same.

Houston is a show me city; people are not just going to spend their hard earned money supporting a “loser”.

Cough cough…. the Texans
But this just shows how college football drives the realignment, NIL, TV deals, etc.

Actually for a few years, the Texans had very bad attendance. Yes tickets were sold (twenty years ago), but no one would show up to games.

I live in Cinco Ranch II.

Trust me, Cinco Ranch is Katy. It may not be within the Katy city limits, but it is ALWAYS regarded as Katy, NOT Houston, nor as an independent suburb. Everyone who lives there regards themselves as a Katy resident. Trust me on that.

Katy is a suburb, and Cinco Ranch is a part of Greater Katy.

You, and cinco ranch, are the exception that proves the rule. How? I dunno, but I’ve wanted to use that term in a reply to you for ages :joy:

Of course it is. Who said it wasn’t?

My mother lives a mile from Cinco Ranch.

Except that it doesn’t work here.

Why?

Because no one that lives in Cinco Ranch regards it as anything other than Katy. It’s not even an exception in that regard.

Apparently @UH1927

He seems to think that Cinco Ranch is a Houston suburb independent of Katy (it’s NOT, it’s considered a part of Katy), and that Katy is an “exurb” of Houston (it’s NOT, Katy is a suburb of Houston, and Cinco Ranch is a part of Katy).

Please tell him how INcorrect that is. Just as I did!

Looks like Cinco Ranch, Texas is NOT Katy, Texas…they are two different cities

I posted a map of the city limits of Katy, Texas NOT the Katy Area!

Same as you confused “City of Houston” with “Houston Metro”

Cinco Ranch is NOT its own municipality. So no. It’s NOT a different city from Katy, nor is it a part of Houston, nor is it an entity all its own.

It’s considered to be unincorporated Fort Bend County, but trust me…ALL of its residents consider it to be a part of Katy and consider themselves to be residents of Katy…NOT Houston. Mailing addresses there are Katy addresses and zip codes, NOT Houston. It’s a part of Katy ISD, NOT Houston ISD.

You can ask @EastCoastCoog and his Mom if you don’t believe me…a CINCO RANCH resident and HOA member!

Using YOUR OWN SOURCE…I think either you didn’t read this, or perhaps are reading comprehension challenged:

Quote: Cinco Ranch is considered to be part of the Greater Katy area and is roughly 10 miles southeast of the city of Katy.

Did you read that?

It’s a part of Greater KATY…NOT Greater Houston.

And that makes Katy…a SUBURB of Houston, given that Cinco Ranch butts almost right up against Houston, together with a few other nearby developments which are also considered a part of GREATER KATY…NOT Greater Houston.
