Nunez statement about TW

The 2025 University of Houston baseball season did not meet my or our collective expectations, including those of Head Coach Todd Whitting. In several postseason conversations with me and our administration, Coach has reviewed this past season, and he shared with me his plans for 2026 as he understands that our results next year must be better. We will continue to support Coach Whitting, his staff and our student-athletes, to ensure they have the best opportunity for success on and off the field as we look
forward to another year of Cougar Baseball.
EDDIE NUÑEZ

What a bunch of effing BS. I am glad he is just now understanding that his “performance does not meet our collective expectations.” We all thought he was doing a great job up until the 2025 season. This must be quite a shock to TW and his program. What has he done in the last 7 years to deserve this whatsoever?

Who wrote that, Pez?

CTW is in the last year of his contract, correct? If that’s the case (I think Hughey finished out his deal as well…), then I expect him to be gone after next season. A potato like CTW can’t change what he is (and certainly won’t), and unless he starts eating magic Cheetos, there’s no reason to think we can luck his way into an at-large bid into the NCAAs.

It gives the AD cover to say he didnt fire him, because apparently he needs such cover. The move stinks of politics rather than sound administration or concern for the program, its players, or those whose money subsidizes CTW’s mediocrity.

Go Coogs.

Yes, Pez

You know I suspect it’s a money thing. We’ve spent money on bringing in a new coach for the WBB. CKS got his, deserved, extension. Weigman was brought in. New softball coach as well (I believe). We are a bit cash strapped at the moment, I assume.

Sounds like next year its his last year. Feel sorry for him but he’s had time. Would have wanted it to workout.

What’s the point of putting this out in public? Does he think that just acknowledging what everyone has known for several years actually accomplishes something?

If you’re going to take some action, just do it; otherwise, STFU and do your job. We need to make a change, but this isn’t the way to do it.

This is Coogfans. Put away the logic. This is a tantrum forum.

What a f— weakling. If it’s a money thing then take out a f— loan until you get an infusion. The brand erosion from this regime is palpable.
The AD is a co-dependent.

Oh but this is it guys. He’ll be gone next year if he doesn’t fix it. Whatever.

He’ll win one more game next year that he did this year and…

He hasn’t done anything, but Pezman did with contracts for Holgorsen, Barbay, and Whitting and his staff. We owe Holgorsen and Barbay some 7-8 million dollars. I don’t like the decision, but I can understand it.

Todd is a good guy who excelled at fundraising. Hopefully, he can move into a development slot after next season.

Yes, I think Nunez didn’t want to pay 2 baseball coach salaries.

We get some money back with Pez taking the ASU gig

We’re currently on our longest NCAAT drought since 1981 and the guy who has been here for 100% of it is coming back next year.

But “he knows he needs to do better.”

You jumped in the baseball thread just to say this?

Tremendous insight.

The amount was 110k……that’s nothing….and paying a new coach is maybe 400k at most.

510k is less than most established P4 coaches……so let’s not act like it was huge money like they paid to get Dana out of here.

If “better” satisfies Nunez’s expectations, that’s really disappointing. Our results this year were better than last year’s. We went from a 112 RPI rank to 93 as of today. That is better, but it’s not good.
The only thing I get from Nunez’s statement is that he is “better” than Pezman.

I don’t know what our paid attendance was this season, but increasing by about 500 per game would pay for the buyout.

I’m not buying the “we don’t have the money” reasoning.

But houston is a hotbed of baseball talent.
